Man those doors are heavy. You should be able to get close to 30 lbs out of each one. Do they still have the door bars in them, thats a big chunk of weight to get out right there.

The doors are fairly heavy. They are nice though, with nice clear lexan, new door handles, etc.

Honestly, they are a little too nice for the Duster and may be up for sale in the future.

I'm still going to re-do the lexan windows in the other doors and lighten them up even further. Once that's done they will go back on the Duster and the nice purple doors will either be sold or put on some other project... Laughing

I wish I hadn't tried so hard to get the driver side door on as a lift-off and booger up the paint on it. Embarassed I replaced the passenger side door in about 15 minutes with no issues at all. Rolling Eyes

Oh yeah, I forgot.

I stopped by the garage for about 15 minutes on the way home.

I snipped & taped that orange wire on the back of the tach... No wait! It was the brown wire... Or was it the green one... Laughing

I was also confident enough to go ahead and tape and zip tie up all of the wires that I had dangling in case I had to re-do anything.

I also adjusted the rear hood pins to raise the back of the hood up to allow heat to escape.

While fiddling with the hood pins I resisted the strong urge to fire up the air compressor, hook up the cut off wheel tool (what's that thing called again...? Confused ) and slice some metal out of the firewall/cowl area.

I knew if I did that I would lose track of time and get in trouble at home... Laughing

We had some more intense conversations to have regarding our future as a "swim family"... Long story, but it looks like that will be coming to an end... Sad

Post subject: Over 1 pound of "Low Hanging Fruit" :-) (Fri Mar 02, 2012 5:46 pm) Reply with quote

I'm at a point with the Duster where the only real thing left to do is drive it so I can discover and work out the bugs! Very Happy

Horrible weather today, so driving it around the neighborhood was out. Laughing

So I grabbed some "Low Hanging Fruit". Very Happy

With the weight of the plastic container deducted I still got 1.116 pounds of unneeded weight out of the Duster with very little effort. Wink

Yeah buddy! Very Happy While I had that cut off wheel in my hand I was tempted to really "get jiggy with it" Laughing , but I resisted the temptation and started doing a little bit on the Challenger instead. Wink

I may try to get out to a test & tune this weekend if all goes well. Very Happy

Mike, Mischa and I spent a couple hours at the garage today. Great weather for it too. Very Happy

I went by NAPA this morning and had them whip me up a couple tranny fluid lines for the Challenger. Turns out that the cooler I bought has some funky metric fittings, so it took a few gyrations to get things figured out. We didn't work on the Challenger today though. Today was all about the GodsRods Duster II!

Check this out! (You'll need to tilt your head to the left... Rolling Eyes ) Very Happy

Mike took a better video of me backing it out of the garage and driving down the street, but I can't get it to upload to Image Shack. Confused

Things went so well that we decided to add a front fascia to get rid of the "missing its lower jaw" look and help with some aerodynamics. Wink

I told you Mike was amazing!... And a Genius! Very Happy

I guess I confused the schedules between Ohio Valley and US60... Rolling Eyes

I thought we'd try towing the 30 miles to Ohio Valley tomorrow, which is a straight shot up 31W, but their test & tune was today. Shocked

US 60 is a little further and I've never been there. I'll decide tomorrow if we'll try to get there.

The plan is to go against my better judgement and try towing the Duster on the dolly,... backwards! Shocked I'll try it out locally first and see how it goes. If it isn't too bad maybe we'll head out to US60 tomorrow.

Post subject: We made it! :-) (Sun Mar 11, 2012 6:24 pm) Reply with quote

We made it out to US60 Raceway in Hardinsburg, KY today and made a couple 1/8th mile passes!

The Duster fired right up and ran like a charm.

Very first pass felt great and was the better of the two passes we made.

60 ft - 1.9162
330 ft - 5.6944
1/8 - 8.9298 @75.51 MPH

Apparently the shifter cable still wasn't far enough away from the header... Embarassed Second pass was a little sloppy in the shifting department and now I can't get it out of high gear. Luckily I have another shifter cable for it and we'll be back in action again real soon.

I also need to re-bleed the brakes. After the second run they felt a little soft.

Other than those two things the Duster is pretty much a race car. It pulled well and went nice and straight, no issues at all.

Towing the car on a dolly backwards was just as hairy as I remembered it from about 13 years ago when I swore I'd never do it again. Laughing

Andrew and his girlfriend came along in the SRT-4 so he could learn the fine art of drag racing too. He went once with me driving and then it was all him. Launching a FWD turbo car is a little tricky, but he did a pretty good job. Luckily, the old man was able to hold off the young gun and bested him. Wink Andrew has the drag racing bug now... Very Happy

It sure feels good to finally have something able to go down the dragstrip! Very Happy
