I would have liked to see more of an angle on the injector bosses. Looks like provisioning for hold-downs will need to be made as well.

Edit: ick...look at the closeup of the rail. Hole is off center.

I don't think that much offset will hurt anything. Lots of give in those o-rings...

Post subject: Nah, hole is perfectly centered, camera oblique to rail (Thu Sep 09, 2010 7:23 am) Reply with quote

Pierre,

Nah, holes are perfect. Rail at angle, this old man taking picture stood up instead of bending down to put lens perpendicular to vertical axis of hole.

I know. I took the pics.

Ok, I'll take your word for it... I was just comparing the distance between the edge and hole on one side vs the other, also the center line scribed appears to not cross the widest part of the hole. I didn't think that would be altered too much by picture angle. Like Lou said though, it will probably still seal.

I thought of using a similar idea for a plenum using box or round tube.

Post subject: Pierre, don't take my word for it. I will provide proof (Thu Sep 09, 2010 3:45 pm) Reply with quote

Pierre,

Don't take my word for it. I will pay to put up a pic if the system will still accept one. And/or email you a set. I would be foolish indeed to make so definitive a statement I couldn't back up. As a scientist, my reaction to uninformed opinion is much the same as yours to a hole you didn't like..Ick.

And when speaking of a hole being off center, what is our frame of reference? I will concede the location was made to the limit of the mill, whose specifications say 1/10,000 runout. Not quite a umeter, but a long, long way from a mm. So off center by no more than 1/10,000...Are runs of Bosch injectors made to that tolerance? Hint: I checked before asking.

Also, the Innovate Wideband LC-1 saved me so many days of tuning I can't believe it. I remember a few years ago when I asked you for advice on Wide vs. narrow for the cost. Best $300 I ever spent, automotively.

Post subject: Pierre's pics are ready, and try this yourself (Thu Sep 09, 2010 5:10 pm) Reply with quote

Folks,

Ebay won't let me post pics or edit because bids are in. I have the pics and will be glad to send em out to anyone asking at djosborn at ncsu dot edu

Pierre correctly pointed out that the supplied pic shows a bung hole that APPEARS off center. It only appeared so because the camera was not exactly perpendicular to the rail flat.

Try it yourself. Focus your lens on a hole about 5/8 to 3/4 inch in diameter. Your focal length won't matter for this, except you should stay longer than 35mm. Tilt your camera relative to the surface. The hole will assume an eccentric and then one side of the hole will disappear (the side furthest from the lens). I will be glad to email a pic showing a perfect hole.

For this correcting image I got so close to the hole the spherical grind of the lens introduced a small amount of error, but tiny, tiny. This lens' artificial horizon is merely a mimic of that we know from planetary bodies, in which the moon seem to appear and disappear and the sun rise and fall over the curved earth surface. (Assuming you believe the earth is round or that lenses have curved outer elements).

You don't need to prove it to me... when I said I'll take your word for it, I meant it. No harm no foul man, never intended for you to get sour over it. You just may want to update the auction with new pics or at least a note because chances are the random person looking at it is going to assume it was off just like I did. Note I wasn't the only one that thought the hole was offset, Lou did as well. Truce?

Did ebay rules change? I've known people add info to the auction after the fact. It may not let you edit existing info but I know people have added info after bids were in.

Post subject: Cool Pierre, I responded more to the definitive than anythin (Sat Sep 11, 2010 1:01 pm) Reply with quote

Pierre,

I'm ok too Pierre, thanks. I responded more to the definitive "it is" in the absence of "it appears to be". I make a living dissecting what appears to be and almost never find something so definitive as to say "it is". And it sure did appear off center, personally irritating when I was trying to not hide anything. Looks as if ebay won't let me add a pic or change anything. I called the service number, waited 46 minutes, but did get to talk to a nice person who would only tell me she worked "offshore". She was nice telling me I couldn't do things, but not so good on telling me why not. Sadly it seems the minimum was hit, so I have to bid the pretty work goodbye.
