No Start problem

So, my car started this morning. Now, will only turn over a few times out of a bunch of tries; I turn the key and just hear a click and nothing.
Quick ideas...ballast resistor? The starter is new and the plugs, wires, etc are all fine (I think).

| If you are getting a click, how old is the battery? How old is the ignition switch and starter relay?

Click with no turnover means faulty starter, faulty starter relay, faulty battery cables, or faulty battery. I am guessing that "new" starter is a parts store "remanufactured" unit; they are often unreliable junk, so don't assume it's okeh simply because you just replaced it.
Is it a small click from the driver side fender area, or a large click closer to the firewall?
Get a screwdriver and use it to (carefully) bridge the two terminals on the starter motor. Does the engine crank?_________________ 一期一会

Starter was remanufactured...I couldn't get a brand new one at my Napa.
The click isn't super loud, but it's the only thing you hear. Seems like it's towards the middle of the car, either near the firewall or right on the other side in the engine bay...hard to tell when it's just me.
Ugh...trying to start it and now the ignition is causing the whole thing to lose power. Get out, leave the door open so that the overhead light can be seen (it's off), jiggle the battery cable then the power (interior overhead light) comes back on.
Headed out now to bridge the starter.

Ok, so, with the key in the ignition position, bridging the starter made it click but not turn the engine over. Farg...it's super windy too so it's hard to hear anything.
The battery is new, the ignition switch and starter relay are who knows how old...I bought the car this summer and I haven't replaced them.

I can get my new starter relay tomorrow morning when they open...I guess my car gets to spend the night at my office.

Maybe this is an incredibly stupid question, but there's no way to start it without a functioning starter relay, right?

Correct. You get a brand new one from Old Car Parts Northwest.

This plus your click upon starter bridging strongly suggests the problem is one or both battery cables.
No idea how you have concluded -- almost certainly incorrectly -- that the relay is at fault._________________ 一期一会

The relay seemed to be where the clicking is coming from, but, like I said, it's hard to tell with the wind and not being able to be in 2 places at one time.

If you get a click when you bridge the starter, the relay doesn't know you're even there. The click is coming from the starter, and your wiggle-the-cable-and-the-lights-change points strongly in the direction of faulty battery cable(s)._________________ 一期一会

Well, it obviously makes sense to you, but now it makes sense to me as well.

Ugh, new battery cable and more of the same. The starter repay will be here tomorrow morning, so I suppose I will just work on it in the parking lot outside of my office.

| You replaced both cables? Did you clean all the contacts and grounds?
