Local dragstrips open this weekend and neither of my Slant 6 Dusters are ready for action. Sad

http://www.slantsix.org/forum/viewtopic.php?t=43881

So, I have no choice but to get out there and drag race my V8 Dart! Very Happy

Pull off 2 spark plug wires and you'll at least have a 6 cylinder............

I got all the servicing done on the Dart. I love the sound of this thing! Very Happy

I still need to mount the Summit ProCar seats. I was looking at how to go about that when I looked underneath and noticed that some of the body plugs in the floorboard are missing! Shocked

Apparently when the new carpet was put in they removed them and forgot to put them back. So, I need to order a set of body plugs and pull the carpet back out. That will make it easier to mount the seats anyway.

Since it's a street car, maybe I'll put down some Dynamat while I'm in there...

Somebody slap me before I start taking this thing apart all over again!!! Shocked Laughing

Post subject: What lies beneath...? (Thu Mar 24, 2011 1:13 pm) Reply with quote

I stopped by the garage on the way home yesterday. I try to sneak in 30-45 minutes once or twice a week if I can. Rolling Eyes

I pulled up the carpet and was sure glad I did!

What's under there?:

Driver's side (it was wet under there!):

Passenger side (dry scaley rust Sad ):

I'm sure some of that rust had to already be there when they replaced the carpet about 6 years ago... Rolling Eyes I was told the wiper pivot seals were replaced, but now I'm not so sure. Or the windshield gasket could have been leaking since they replaced the windshield with the new paint job... FUN FUN FUN Very Happy

As I was uploading the above pics I found the first picture the GodsRods kids sent to me in Iraq. They wanted to make sure I knew that my baby was in good hands. Very Happy

A little later they took it to the Haye's Mopar Meet with the North Georgia Mopar Club and put it on the dyno. Back then it made 199 RWHP. I was hoping for more, but it was my first engine build. It makes a little more now with better heads. (Thanks Gerald!)

Rob, your water issues can also be from the windshield gasket receeding and leaving a couple slots open that are just about even with the wiper stands. Another good place is plugged cowl vents letting water build up and run in the vents.

Thanks Dennis. When I get up in there I will check all areas closely to figure out where it's getting in. I've got me a date with some wire wheels and Por-15... Very Happy

We snuck in a little bit of garage time this weekend... Wink

Saturday Chase(14) and I spent about an hour modifying the seat brackets on the new seats. We cut off the ends of the brackets and drilled some holes to a larger diameter to put bolts through them. Later, Michael(12) helped me cut and drill some aluminum square stock to serve as spacers. I've never really been into lowriders, so I wanted the seats up a little higher. Wink

Sunday Michael(12), CJ(10), Mischa(the dog Smile) and I went back over and figured out where to drill the floorboards for the mounting holes. (Dag nabbit, I forgot to take pictures AGAIN!) I showed Mike how to check underneath before drilling so as to avoid those brake lines. Wink

I made sure to fire it up each time to keep the juices flowing and the enthusiasm up! Very Happy
