| What year auto tranny would be the best for drag racing? I have a 64 904 that I can use but was told by someone that the later ones are better. Thank you for any help.

If possible, use a 68 and later 904 with the larger input shaft. More torque converts are available for that size input shaft.
But... these will not fit-up to 60 to 67 SL6 crankshafts with the small counter-bore in the back of the crank. (torque converter register hole)
The 68 and up 904 also has mechanical shift linkage, (not cable activated)a different (more common) speedo gear arrangement and a slide-in driveshaft yoke.

| Thank you DOC for the info. What is the H.P limit on the 904 trans if I rebuild it and put all of the small block internals it it?

Racers run the 904 behind small blocks that run in the 10's. True they do use a few after-market parts, you should have no problems with the stock parts behind a slant six.

Simply do the same mods as the small blocks do and should be fine.

| low gear sets help, we put the guts out of a v8 904 into the slant six 904 case and added extra clutches and a shift kit. Never broke yet and pulls hard off the line
