68 Dart initiated into Boost Land

Did the first real pulls with the turbo 68 Dart today at 6psi boost. Pulls pretty hard from 2600 RPM up. Should work great on the track and for putting around. Big smiles on my face for sure...
No major leaks/problems as yet. May need a bigger tire to pull it all the way through the 1/4 mile in 3rd gear. 3.55 gears and 24" tire now. 2200 stall converter should make for easy traction, kinda sucky 60 fts, but easy on all the parts. Good for a boost beginner.
Should be good for travel to Kearney. Spent 45 min in rush hr traffic after leaving Seymour's shop.
More tuning tomorrow. AFR at 10.6-11 and stable under WOT and full boost.
This thing will be really nuts at 12 psi or more.
Lou

Cool.
60 foots won't be as bad as you think. It will make a ton of torque down low. |

| Years ago a friend had a turbo 202 cube Holden 6, and changed the gears from 3.23, to 3.08. It went better everywhere. Seemed to make the turbo "work"

Plenty of pics on my flickr site.
http://www.flickr.com/photos/16910097@N06/sets/72157625924551471/
No pics there from the running version, but it all looks about the same...
I read the boost on the MS-EFI MAP sensor during a hard pull and it maxed out around 150 kPa, or about 7.5 psi boost. Not the same as the 6 psi spec'ed for the wastegate, but close enough I guess. It feels like a rocket, but I am holding off guessing what it'll turn on the track.
Took my 4 yr old nephew and sister-in-law for a ride after lunch. Little Arthur's smile was bigger than mine...
Launching will be easy. Boost doesn't start coming up until about 2400-2600 RPM at WOT, then it takes off.
One issue is I now have a little miss at idle. Best guess is a wee leaking intake manifold gasket on one cylinder? Cleans up above idle, so I guess it's OK. Any input from the experts here? Will I hole a piston if I keep leaning on it?
Seymour and I worked on the car a little today at his shop - me making brake+whl brng adjustments and swapping wheels/spacers around, and he kindly fabbed a heat shield for the master cyl so I don't melt it down or boil fluid. What a guy!
Lou

No intercooler eh no meth kit right? Eh 7.5psi i wouldn't think you could hurt it since you got the afr in a good range under wot.

Thanks, guys. Kev, thanks for the heatshield link. I may get one a dem!
14.98 @ 95.3 MPH was fastest time with non-optimal mixture and retarded timing. Methinks we can get to the 13s with minimal tweaks and good air. Still gets decent mileage 21-22 MPG for the 1000 mi roundtrip. Better tires and a new limited slip will really help build boost and 60 ft, and 3.23 gears will let us air it out at the top end. With the 3.55s and 24.8" tires, 96-100 MPH is about the max.
Lou

Sounds great, Kevin. I look forward to hearing about your runs too!
My long-term plan of going to tunable port EFI before turboing seems to have worked perfectly. It was astonishingly easy to get the mixture tuned for 11.5:1 WOT pulls, and mileage. Hard to imagine doing that with a carb - once EFI'ed, can't go back...
I was pretty happy with hitting the 14s with 4400 ft density altitude and conservative tuneup.
Cheers,
Lou
