I went off the end of our track sat at high speed. Still at about 100MPH through the weeds bushes stumps and trees. They say I went in just over 1000ft and flew for a bit about waist high or better. Somehow I survived. I am awful sore but broke nothing. Car was on kill as I was running a injected 427 FED of similar weight. It was a good run and I had planned if it was good I would retire from shoeing as it is going too fast for me. The car survived intact as well with nothing broke. The tunnel ram worked perfectly, the fuel starve at the top of first was gone. I left the Big Chevy sitting out of the hole so he had to work for the win. I am retired from driving this car. Its performance now exceeds anything thought possible and I don't have the hair to drive it anymore. In my excitement running against my PALS injected BB Chev I pushed the pedal so hard I bent the throttle arm on the front carb and it jammed wide open. I killed power but by then I was too far by the finish line to stop and went of the end. Surprised I am still here. Anyway Was a wonderful experiment and several great years running this thing in one form or another. I am happy and am glad the last run was a good one (for the first 1/4 mile)for my memory.

Its easy too build a too fast car as we get older......

I sold my race car last year. My body could not take the beating as the car went faster.

I quit snowboardcross at 49 for the same reasons...

.......fires at 45

I like to close out a sport at the top of my game,,,,sounds like your are doing the same.

Its lucky you didn t get seriously hurt ....stupid old fart.

Sorry to hear about the crash, but glad you are in decent shape. Maybe the car can go to a budding Slant Six racer somewhere??? Just a thought...

Tractor pulling! Man that is not a bad idea!
So far here is what I think. first I will fix it and insure it can never happen again. I knew I was probably done shoeing it because I don't hold it down all the way anymore. I just wanted to see if I had fixed the fuel starve in first and had told myself if it felt good then one run would do me.
So worst case scenario, I hang a tag on it saying "experiment successfully completed" and display it in the back of my shop. OR I hire a shoe to drive or I sell it.
I have a VW bug gasser about 1/2 built and it is also slant six powered. It should be a much tamer ride but after feeling the big power of the tunnel ram header deal after I sorted it out it may not do it for me. I have a MAX wedge 63 Dodge I drive so I still have my hand in. Also my writing career has resurrected itself and I have articles in Chrysler Power, Hot Rod Deluxe and a local newspaper this month alone. Maybe it is time to rethink. The SrDragster was just something to do after retirement and it sort a got carried away. I don't know. I think I will wait till the pain goes away and I am easily mobile before I give it any serious thought. Meanwhile if you wish, go to Quintecars.ca and there is a picture of me laying the hole shot on the injected Chevy rail. There is no mention of my adventure which is good as I don't want to damage the event in any way.

I should also mention that aside from the fact I was reaching speeds I am not comfy with I should say in all honesty my biggest problem by far is heath related. Due to an old injury to my left side rib cage and its attachments to my backbone getting in and out of the car anymore has become a painful and awkward experience. I knew I was reaching the point where it wasn't practical to continue. This is as good a place as any to tie the ribbons on it.

Thanks. I remember thinking as I left the pavement this is probably "IT" . Next pair staged included an old friend driving a bB ford power 32 Bantam. He told a mutual friend when he saw the car fly up out of the weeds and trees he figured I was toast. Some fellows couldn't speak even an hour later but would just come up and pat my shoulder. It could have gone either way in a instant. Somehow I survived. So did the car. Only one little tweak in the side panel and it is behind the wheel so one cant even see it. Once I get feeling better will check it all over for bent wheels axles and such but my friend Bill Vilneff crawled under it and looked it over on the trailer and said he could see nothing bent busted or cracked. He is a racer hisself , a mech and experienced fabricator so he has an eye for it. Just heard from the organizer . Video of the day has been converted for viewing and they are loading one for me as we speak. The videoer though told me he let go of the button once I went off track so they could rescue me so unless the Drone helicopter video has it the only replay will be in my nightmares. However my memory is from the huge burnouts we did. The surge of power from initial spin up through first and second was unbelievable. It more then exceeded my expectations. I still grin when I think of it! And that should be on the track video.

Just got to see a photo posted on Facebook by Shane Featherstone Photography. The pain of the accident subsided as it is a beautiful photo from inside the track safety zone of me and Pat Doornbos going at it. The slant six is still out in front and giving its all to hold off the big Injected Chevy. We both have our heads down and are on KILL! Best photo I think I have ever seen of my car in action. I feel the adrenalin rush just looking at it. I want to shout "RUN FOREST RUN!!!!!!!!!! Just to put it in perspective we run heads up here at Picton Airfield Armdrop Drags. No handicaps. Any lead I have I earned.
Makes the whole Sr dragster project worthwhile. I can retire the dragster now with a big grin.

Nope. You need to see you eye doctor. Both runs are good. And the starter has her arm all the way down. This is Armdrop son. Not Armraise.
I use a converter made for me by my friend Frank Lupo of Frank Lupo's Dynamic Converters. It is an 8 inch 4700 stall. Since we were early in the day's running and because the track isn't sprayed (not permtted) I was wary of the bite and staged in at just under 3800. I run a 29.5 X 10.5 MT tire and 3.91 gears. I weigh in race trim including me 70lbs less then the big Chevy rail. Apparently he spun a bit so they told me and you can clearly see his tires hazing in the photo. I normally can hole shot any of the cars I run as Franks converter leaves on Nosebleed. Several have also said they have the run videoed. I have retired from shoeing the rail and have had a nibble yesterday on selling it turnkey. I have not retired from racing or racing a slant six though I have a gasser 1/2done with a 237 inch /six. Sorry my fun bothers you so much but Frankly Scarlet....
