My favorite was the Corvette Song, he had an interesting career and was a good singer.

RIP.

Wow. Well, my condolences to Nancy. Tammy, Tammy again, Shirley and Dorothy. I think that's in reverse order. I guess he had a lot of love to spread around. Laughing

not many left like him anymore.

there is no comparison between the modern stuff (think Taylor Swift) and the old poets like George, Willie, Waylon, Cash, Emmilou, and Merle

he will surely be missed

Country music ended with Garth Brooks. He started the trend of selling Pop music as country.

Actually real Country Music ended in the late-60's when the fusion bands appeared and started integrating Rock and other music styles into it... (The Eagles get to be the most popular example of 'country rock' for this change...for the more obscure listener I will be over in the corner listening to the Flying Burrito Brothers for the road less travelled example...not on the left side arguing about whether the Weavers were really Folk or Country).

"It gets worse...Listen to Bill Haley and his Saddlemen in 1954...then play your favorite Bill Haley and the Comets in 1955-1956...that guy really spelled the end and the trend way before his time..."

Well, I don't say that I can agree with this line of thinking (country is dead), but I can understand folks concern over it. I doubt country music traditionalists c1959 were real thrilled with White Lightning (above) at the time.

I will simply point out that in the '90s when Garth was BIG (and I was not a fan), Marty Stewart was also big, and is still playing and recording today, and even has his own weekly TV show on RFD-TV. If you like old school traditional country music, you would love his show, I think.

I particularly enjoy the Leroy Troy segments each week.

I don't want to pollute this George Jones tribute further...perhaps a new topic if you folks would like to discuss it further?
