Get yourself some tall butt gears to drive on, then swap to your short gears at the track.

If you carefully "file smooth" and clean the axle housing to center-section surface, then glue down a new gasket, glued to the housing, then oil or grease the side that contacts the center-section, you can do a number of gear swaps with the same gasket 'in-place'.
I just have to be careful removing / installing the heavy "pig"... it is easy to scratch or nick the glued-down gasket with the ring gear teeth.
In 2004, my son and I drove our 65 Dart to MATS and did gear swaps there... 2.76 gearing for the highway & 4.10s for runs and "around-town" work.

yea i have heard about doing this.... when you say file are you trying to clean them or level it? so you would need to install the drop out first to find the high spots?
i may be brave but it sounds like Romeo might be able to come thru... he came up to the shop today and had a look around and chat! |

A fine tooth flat file is just a fast way to remove any crud and to quickly find any bumps or nicks that need attention.

| I could get you one way on my trailer. I am going to MATS and picking a motor up in Phx. I will have an empty 2 car trailer as I am picking up some cars in CA after. I could get the motor and go to Vegas or the other way around.

Sorry to hear that she is being a brat. You will have to learn to discipline better so that she doesn't spoil your fun.
I was looking forward to meeting you even if you didn't catch a ride. Good luck. Maybe we'll meet next year.
