Post subject: disc brake conversion (Tue Feb 07, 2012 2:04 pm) Reply with quote

I'm sure you guys know this one. I'm considering converting my '67 dart front drum brakes, 9" to disc. I'm told the conversion kits require a drum brake spindle for 10" brakes only, the rest is OK. Isn't the ball joint and upper control arm different for 10" brake cars vs 9" brake cars? Or is it true that all I need for the conversion kit is the 10" drum brake spindle to swap out?

thanks,

Upper ball joint and A-arm are the same on 9" and 10" drums. The lower ball joint is different, but the lower arm is the same. Very Happy

Thanks so much. I suppose the disc conversion kits have something that works with the lower ball joint for the 9" brakes...

That I do not know.

If you have to use the 10" spindle, you'll have to use the bigger ball joint. IIRC, the holes for mounting the spindle to the ball joint are different. Very Happy
