I Got back Home about 12 Am.

Good times,

I had a Valve go bad on the rear van wheel on I-79.

Got it swapped in 15 minutes before it got dark.

Congrats Ron on another 2 race weekend win.

Greg

Wow, what a great weekend. I cannot remember better weather all weekend. Fantastic group of people and 3 well-run races.

So great to see Rob S back in the racing group and making things happen.

The spectators and announcers really got into the cars.

Big thanks to Barbara Bruner and Kay Hamby (and many others) for feeding us homecooked food on Sat and Sun.

My weekend? Perfect:

12.75 @ 107.45 MPH
8.13 @ 87.0 MPH

Both will be backed up records in D/U. I will send paperwork to Seymour soon. Thanks to Ron for nudging me (at Knoxville) about pulling my air cleaner off. I guess it was dirty or just insufficient flow, probably dirty. That was worth 0.4 sec and 5+ MPH!

Cheers everyone,

Lou

I never pay much attention to my air cleaner. Do you think there might be .4 there? It sounds like this was the best Clay City race in many years. I would have loved to be there but those 900 mile trips are harder to imagine the older I get.

Hi Seymour,

Well, I have probably done a few hundred tests w/ and w/o air cleaner over the years. 98 of the 100 times, nothing happens, but occasionally I am surprised. This was a big one. I once did a test with the early EFI on the 68 Dart and it ran about 0.3 sec faster WITH a 3" air intake pipe and cone airfilter on the end, as opposed to NO air cleaner on the TB at all. That was another surprise in the other direction... Maybe 1-3 other times, I actually had enough dirt in my element to cause power loss.

I will buy a new simple element for this thing, then think about engineering some sensible air intake ducting and air pickup point.

Slant on,
Lou

Hey Seymour,

We all want to see you at the races. Could you perhaps recruit a friend to travel with you? You don't even have to bring the Valiant. You can come in your newer car. We won't hold it against you. Wink

Thanks John, We just need to get him to turn the fone sidewayz...

Those bilg black boxes on the sides of the video block out some of the fun!

Good seeing you guys this weekend!

Post subject: Points and a couple highlights (Mon Sep 11, 2017 4:33 pm) Reply with quote

The points were fun to calculate for this weekend!

Ron Hamby has now given up more points than most people have earned this year.

The Top 4 racers have all won rounds at more than 5 events and have to give up their lowest points races.

Greg and Rusty both asked me who was now 2nd in points... I didn't do the math until today so,...

Here is how things shook out this weekend:

Saturday 1/4 Mile:
Ron Hamby - 45
Greg Ondayko - 35
Rusty Heisten - 25
Rodney Hargis - 15
Josh Woodie - 15
John Metelko - 15
Brian Droschak - 5
Gary Bruner - 5
Lou Madsen - 5
Jeff Jasper - 5
Norman Foster - 5

Sunday 1/4 Mile:
Ron Hamby - 45
Greg Ondayko - 35
Rusty Heisten - 25
Rodney Hargis - 15
Lou Madsen - 15
Josh Woodie - 5
John Metelko - 5
Brian Droschak - 5
Sam Daugherty - 5
Rob Simmons - 5

Knoxville Make Up 1/8 Mile:

Greg Ondayko - 40
Rodney Hargis - 30
Rusty Heisten - 20
Norman Foster - 10
Brian Droschak - 10
Sam Daugherty - 5
John Metelko - 0
Ron Hamby - 0
Josh Woodie - 0
Lou Madsen - 0

(Sam Daugherty only raced the Knoxville race on Saturday, so he received the 5 attendance points. If there are two races on the same day you only get 5 attendance points per day - not per race.)

Ron Hamby gives up 110 points.
Rusty Heisten gives up 20
Greg Ondayko gives up 10
Rodney Hargis gives up 10

Ron is untouchable with a whopping 250 (that's 360-110 Shocked ). Not to mention he will be receiving another 20 for setting a record once Seymour confirms it and Ryan posts it.

Rusty has already received 20 points for setting a record at Knoxville.

So,... Whos is currently 2nd in National Points...?

Rusty Heisten with 190!
Greg is 3rd with 180
Rodney is 4th with 120

I don't see Rusty hauling all the way from Missouri to Maryland for the Mason-Dixon race or to Redding, CA.

Greg will have to win a round at Mason-Dixon in addition to the 10 attendance points to take 2nd place. In the event of a tie for points, the person with higher Performance Index (PI) wins. Rusty has 0.7273 to Greg's 0.5926.

Or,... Did Rusty and I have a Top Secret conversation about his plans to attend the Mason-Dixon race...? Twisted Evil

I will update the Championship thread next.

A couple quick highlights from the weekend:

Jeff Jasper and his son raced with us Saturday in his black '63 Valiant. Jeff raced with us once before at Clay City in 2005. Welcome back Jeff! Very Happy

He left after his first round loss to go to London, KY and race there. He couldn't come back for Sunday's race because his son had baseball practice.

Greg presented Rusty and Jeff Strahl with their trophies from last year's banquet. Rusty was 5th in national points and Jeff was Rookie of the Year. Jeff's trophy was filled with peanut M&Ms, cuz Rookies eat candy.Very Happy
He was nice and shared with everyone.

When I showed up Friday night I went to say hello to Ron and Kay Hamby. They were just finishing up removing the 507 pounds of road grader blades they had added to set the open D/Alcohol record. Shocked
Kay said she'd give me a hug, but warned me that she was all sweaty! Laughing She even still had her work gloves on. Smile

I bunked with John Metelko and Cookie... I wouldn't call bunking with Cookie a Highlight, but it is worth mentioning,... 'cuz Cookie farts in his sleep! Laughing
(Name the movie that line is from)

I luv ya Cookie & I'm glad we're back together again. It may just be time to start up our "Cookie versus Mater" banter again...

I think I just went first, but I've got another one...

I already ain't no Poser like you! I dun raced me a real racin' car! Norm & Possum are on my team... You'd better git Big 'Zilla fired up & ready to rumble, cuz you're gonna need some help. Twisted Evil

Now you go! Razz
