Car Model: 1962 Plymouth Valiant Signet
I've just purchased a 1962 valiant signet. The dash has a dent just left of the instrument cluster cover and some rust spots here and there. I'm going to need to completely remove the dash in order to sand it down repair the dent and paint.
Can anyone give me some help on how to proceed. There's good posts on removing the instrument panel but not the whole dash. Thanks! rwshocker

Most folks say the winshield has to come out.
If your gasket is bad and you are going to replace the glass then it should come out.

That being said, if you are patient, you can carefully snake a screwdriver under the rubber and remove the Phillip head screws.
There are a number along the top of the dash.
There are also a couple on the sides under the metal flaps at the window posts.
After these are out, remove the steering column.
A couple of bolts in the front kick panel area and bolts around the clutch/brake bracket.
The heater should be out also to help you see what you are working with.
Wiring at the firewall and any connections to ground or running out of the dash area needs to be loose also.

I used Allen head screws to reinstall mine, much easier to hold on the driver and get started back into the upper dash/cowl area.
I never could get the couple on the sides at the A pillar back in, could not figure that one out.

Can be done, but it's a Major job.
