Post subject:  exhaust configuration?

OK, so I have been working on getting my exhaust connected to the Clifford shortie headers. My intention is to combine the two separate header tubes into one pipe and then have a full exhaust (muffler and tailpipe) with a cutout for uncapping to race. I am considering two options right off of the headers. The first one is a 2-1 merge pipe with a cut-out (Y pipe) right after the merge. The 'straight outlet would be cut a little shorter than the pic and get a 90* turnout that can be capped off. The 'angled' tube will go over to the rest of the muffler/exhaust.

The merge pipe is basically positioned right next to the (automatic) transmission. The problem here is that the cut-out pipe (straight section) is then very close to the crossmember that the trans mount bolts to.
I found an X-pipe that I think can be a better fit.

I would cut it down some to fit, with the angled parts one leading to the full exhaust and the other would be for the cutout.
My question is whether the merge pipe or the X-pipe would be best for a drag racing application.
I welcome all ideas on this.

I guess my main question is whether the merge between the two header sets is considered a collector and whether the shape is of any importance. If nothing else, I am going with the second setup as it will greatly simplify getting my exhaust configured.
Anyone in need of a 2 1/2 inch 2-1 merge pipe or a 2 1/2 inch exhaust cutout?

I would really consider putting the cutout 12-24" behind the Y-pipe, and/or moving the Y-pipe back just behind the trans X-member. You will generally make more power with the Y-pipe junction at or just behind the X-member, then I would put the cutout Y about 6-18" behind that. There are not huge gains to be had here, but a few HP and easier access/packaging would be 2 gains in one.
