I saw the old threads and articles online of Bob Dally's barracuda. Does anyone know if he or someone else is still running the car at the salt? Looks like the F/CPRO record was bumped to 146.125 mph in 2020. I went to Bonneville for the first time in 2021 and it was awesome! Helped a team with an AA/GL (big block chevy, gas lakester). We were going after a 314.511 mph record but lost a cylinder possibly 2 during the run and only went 307 mph. Last year it rained but I'm planning to go back this year. It would be neat to see some slants out there!

I will also be trying to head to Loring Airforce base in Maine for the Loring Timing Association meet in July!

Looks like based on the E engine class: 184.00-260.99 cubic inches a 225 would have to go up against ford and chevy small block v8s so i'm assuming a 170 would be a better option for the salt. Probably why there isn't a lot of people using them out there.

Lou M, others and I were at the salt the last time Bob ran the Barracuda in 2016.
He threw a con rod from the piston pin on his warm up pass and that was it.
I understand he has sold the car.
Lou would know the details.

I believe someone in Seattle area bought it and is planning to (or has?) run a 170, perhaps w/turbo. That car with its NA 170 is certainly capable of over 146 MPH if the reliability could be improved. My feeling is that engine assembly and/or proper break in and tune up was the culprit for the engine failures. I think it was in 2015 when the week was rained out that he had a single 4bbl on there and it sounded the best of all the times I went (4?). Complexity is often your enemy in racing like that.

keeping it simple does make it easier to stay consistent and fix things out on the salt. well unless it's a rod through the block. I will keep me eye out for slants on the salt this year and post photos on here. Hopefully the rain stays away and the salt is in good shape. It's a shame how little is left

Bob Dally was the racer with the 66 Barracuda. The year you were there, he was part of a larger team called the Baker Boys or something like that. I'll look it up.

Josh originally put that car together, then sold it to Bob before it saw any duty. Bob did a ton of development over the years.

Yeah, I might have some pics somewhere, but this was way before I had a "smart" phone. Oh, Jason Ernst was along that time too, I believe? I'm not sure but my friend Neal might have been there too.

Daniel Pierson posted these really cool photos of a Devin that was powered by a slant six that raced in Bonneville from 1964-1967. Some talk on landracing.com states:

...I found my copy of the Hot Rod Magazine yearbook # 6 which which was from 1966. On page 27 there is a picture of a Devin and the caption to with says "George Genevro's Adams-Genevro modified sports entry has a Devin body.Valiant engine of 181 cubic inches. It set a new record of 149,589 mph.It is from Garden Grove, Calif. Wheelbase is 96 inches."

Looking closer at the photos the car made a best run of 152.02 mph but wasn't able to back it up to up the record

I'd love to have this car!
