Performance Index: Who IS the Best!?

I went back through the entire history of Slant 6 Racing News archives again to determine everyone's "Performance Index".

Seymour had posted these results for the 2006 season and that sparked my interest to see who really is the "Best" Slant 6 racer... :wink:

The calculation is simply the total number of round wins compared to the total number of rounds competed in since 1999.

If you won 2 rounds of a 4 round race, your Performance Index would be 0.5000.

I took into consideration those events that had the "minumum point guarantee" and adjusted them to only the rounds actually raced.

I also made adjustments where necessary for a couple races early on that were not completed, etc.

This "Leader Board" will look a little different from the "Career Points" thread... :wink:

So, who really IS the "Best of the Best" in Slant 6 Racing?...

Nice work. But since you have so much time on your hands, show us the list with only those who have run a minimum number of rounds run. Say 25 or 50. Rick PS. I'm still pretty impressed with Frank Funks 11 out of 13, for a rookie no less!!

Thanks, Rob. Now we have more numbers/benchmarks to bench race with. I am impressed mine is as high as it is. I had a 0.000 rating for the first 3-4 years I raced (5 races/yr). Lou

Not taking anything away from those with less than 25 rounds. But look at the list again with those who have 25 plus rounds and you see the cream rise to the top. Only 2 have over a .500 win percentage and they no longer race with us. Next on the list Ron Hamby and Rodney Hargis. That is pretty good company. The rest of the top 10 looks like a whose who of Slant 6 racing.That also should give some hope to the new racers. Even the best we have in our group is still under .500! So come on out and give it a try. Rick

Okay, Here are the top racers limited to only those that have competed in 25 or more rounds of Slant 6 racing. Here's a little info on the Top 10: 1. Glen Terry bumped his Performance Index by winning back to back races last year. Glen was our National Champion three years in a row (2007-2009). 2. Gordie Stevens hasn't raced with us since 2007. He was our National Champion in 2001. 3. Ron Hamby won his fourth National Championship last year with a strong season end push. Ron's winning seasons are '99, '02, '03 and '13. 4. Rodney Hargis is a two time National Champion, winning in '98 and '05. He gave Ron a run for his money at the end of last year trying for his third Championship. 5. Aric Erickson raced with us in '05-'12 with his best years in '08 and '12 where he earned over 100 points each year. He missed 2013, but will hopefully continue racing with us. 6. Mike Jeffrey was one of the Pioneers of the Slant 6 Racing series pushing for lower ET's and playing with nitrous in the early years with his "Buzzin' Half Dozen" 68 Valiant. I believe he may have been the first Slant 6 in the 10's. He hasn't made it to his typical Mid West Slant 6 race in the last two years. He typically competes in the Stock Eliminator class racing where he represents the Slant 6 in a Mirada. His Valiant is still in the garage under a cover in case he ever gets tired of Stock racing and wants to start pushing the envelope for those super low, nitrous fed ET's again. 7. Ron Parker is another SSRN Pioneer and our 2000 National Champion driving his "Slanted Attitude" '69 Dart. Unfortunately, Ron has been unable to race with us since 2009 due to health concerns. Please keep him in your thoughts and prayers as he awaits a liver transplant. 8. Tom Drake only raced with us from '03 to '06, but was a major sponsor and race coordinator. He and his Dad Leighton teamed up and showed us what turbo power could do for a Slant 6, running a best of 9.85 in the 1/4 mile and still holding the A Unlimited 1/8 mile record with a 6.10 @109 MPH set at Farmington, NC in 2004. Tom still lurks here and occasionally posts links to cool cars that he finds on Craigslist, Racing Junk, etc. I've pestered him to get back into Slant 6 racing, but it hasn't worked... yet. 9. John Terry only raced with us in '07, '09 and '10, but he had a good win record in Slant 6 racing. Anyone want to share any more information on John? 10. Norman Foster has raced with us since '02 and is our '06 National Champion. He has cut back his racing since retiring, but still tries to show up for 1 or 2 races a year.
