Post subject:  Testing voltage regulators

Besides putting them on and see if it works is there a bench test? I have several I want to test since I have found my problem. Any ideas? FSM is no help here

I think that installing them is the only sure way.

You might be able to use an adjustable voltage power supply and a test light. Wire the test light like it's the field coil, see what voltage makes it turn off and on. The function of the regulator is to switch the field coil on below a set voltage, but it may also have some sort of intentional pulse function or other complications.

You don't mention whether you're trying to test '69-down or '70-up regulators. '70-up regulator test info here and here.

Years ago when I worked the parts counter we had an alternator test machine that also had a VR test option, had plug ins for the common Mopar and Ford regulators and alligator clips for any of the point type ones with a different position for each on the tester

That YouTube link was one I already watched as well. Thanks for the input Dan. I always appreciate you helping this old man out.
