For your stated goals..a 170 would be cool. You guys are missing the point of turbo torque..sure your rev ceiling would be extended..but area under the curve is where turbos shine..more cubes is always better. End of story.. a 170 with a 7000 + would be a real machine with a gt3582 or gt40...itd come on fairly late with a .82 ar t3 hotside..but would make power to the limiter..and you did mention land speed racing..id lean towards a .58 ar t4 in the 66--70mm compressor range and let her eat..with a prepped sb with k1s/wiescos..and enough cam..id say 450whp is ez...

^ ive made 2.8hp/ci with a lot crappyer engines..ez cheese..and this 8psi stuffs for babys...ive run 16lbs on my single turbo 273..not even studded on crappy felpro compsite gaskets with a baby mp 340 grind "purple cam"..its all in the tune up and thermal management...i see no problem running 15-20 psi from ANY compressor on a studded/oringed 170 if you can keep it out of detonation.

Cubes are sweet but it would be pretty cool to rev to the moon :)
