A Nice History there as always by Brian.

I chuckle every time he says Wolff Schlegel (sp?)

Thanks for sharing!

Somebody in the States could spend the $9 on that issue of Speed & Custom and scan/post the story of the turbocharged '63 Valiant.

I don't remember if it was that magazine but I have a vintage article (just the 2-3 pages of the article not whole magazine) about a /6 homebrew turbo from sometime in the late 60s-early 70s....

If you notice, most of these early turbo builds used a carb in a "draw-thu" configuration.. Mine was similar except since I was using a 170 engine, I used a modified Corvair (168 cid) turbo system. With a 500 Holley 2bbl and open exhaust it would pump about 10-12 lbs boost. On the Corvair GM used a small 1 bbl carb and a exhaust designed to create some back pressure, as a way to limit boost to around 7-8 lbs.

Not to "nit pic", but did anyone else notice where the article said, "The hydraulic valve lifters are lashed out, so they will not pump up". Hydraulic lifters in a slant back in the '60's?

They could have swapped them over to Hyd Lifters somehow..
Some smart guys there, but not sure how they fed them oil pressure.

That would have been waay before any production of Hyd lifters were in the mainstream, at least in mopar land.

Good to see inaccuracy in print hadn't changed, new issue of Mopar Action calls out a Clifford "Hyper-pak", when it is clearly a traditional Cliffy 4bbl. unit.

It seems all 4 barrel slant sixes are "Hyper-pak" now a days.
Thanks Greg, I enjoyed the read

I always get the guys at the track who tell me their Dad, Grampa, Uncle, cousin's next door neighbor had a "factory" Hyper Pak in a 60 to 69 Dart or Valiant. I just smile and nod.

They were Hemi Slant Sixes.
A lot of people get them confused!
