bought a "remanufactured" Holley 1BB carb for my little slant 6 63 valiant): doesn't work worth a crap; I got the motor started once and now it does not want to anything.
I've checked for fuel flow (good), tune up (good), timing (good), spark yes) so I'm blaming the carb.... Where should I go from here. (rebuild)? input appreciated

It could be something simple like a clogged needle valve or trash in the fuel bowl or jet somehow.

Hard to say.

If it was one of those "junk remanufactured carbs" as Dan calls them it could be a whole host of goofy stuff going on.

Does it run on the old carb? / Run on starting fluid? / Run a bit by pouring a bit of fuel down the carb throat?

Well it "ran" on the old carb, but very rough... didn't know anyone who could rebuild the old one, so... bought this one. It started once, but wouldn't idle; I adjusted the idle screw, waited a bit and tried again. No go. Poured a little gas down the carb.. no go. Not sure where to go from here. I'm going to stick the old carb on to see if will run and rule out the problems, altho I know she is getting gas and spark. For such a supposedly "simple" carb, why is it so complicated?

Well it does run with the old carb (roughtly): so I know that the problem is this "remanfactured" carb I spent $300 on...... bummer

Wild guess, page 2 figure-5 fuel inlet, fuel valve stuck closed no fuel in bowl. set up some vibration on carb body with screw driver handle, tap lightly.That might be enough to break it loose.

I would hazard a guess if it ran poorly on both carbs it may just be a skipped tooth on the timing chain or a whole host of other things such as improper valve lash, no compression etc.

Have you ever heard the engine run properly on any carb?

If not you need to get or borrow a known good running carb and slap it on this engine and try it out.

Another idea is to take your "Junk" brand new rebuilt carb and install it on a known good running slant 6.

If it runs fine on the other engine than its not your new carb.

Gonna have the carb rebuilt... and try again. I'm convinced that this will take care of the rough running.
