Plugging away on the Duster. Only a few more things to do before it is "streetable".

* Figure out an electrical problem with the parking lights, running lights, horn and no power to the instrument panel.
* Mount the front seats.
* Fix the vacuum controlled heater valve.
* Adjust the kick down linkage.
* Front end alignment.

When those are done. It is time to make it faster.

It's great to get down to a list like this. Before that, the list is so long it's not worth writing down, and you just try to fix what you can when you can. Hope you get to the "making it faster" part soon!

I have a tried and true combination that should get me into the mid 18s.

18s, that seems so laughable when everybody knows all you need is a junkyard LS and a couple of Chinese turbos and you are running 10s... But where is the fun in that...

Mid 18s is way more fun than 20s! It's ALL relative. Just have fun, and chuckle at the naysayers...

In 2010 my wife and I was at MATS where we watched the Nitti Duster race against Madmax's Valiant. The race of the century, New tech against old tech. Our car came up next and posted a blazing 22 second run. The super stockers could have lined up and ran a pass, circle around and run again before our car reached the finish line.

Fun times

Last weekend, I posted video #40 on Youtube. This series documents the long and sometime tedious tasks that are needed to bring an old car out of project status to streetable status. The channel is about 4 months behind real time and I am slowly whittling down the last of the above list.

The goal of course, is to run the car down the track and see how fast it is. Who knows, it may be faster then Uncle Tony and Plan Z.

I had a good laugh the other day. I was putting the Duster up on ramps to adjust the kickdown linkage and managed to bury the car in the driveway. Apparently 255x60 tires make a good shovel in loose gravel. I had to pull it out with the HEMI powered Dodge Ram, at least the hemi is good for something other then sucking gas.

I just finished up a 2 barrel upgrade on the Duster. Out with the crappy BBS and in with an Autolite 2150, one with 1.21 on the side. This is rated at 351cfm or 250cfm on the 4 barrel scale. The nice rebuilt one that I did, turned out to be crap, and one off the rebuild pile worked perfectly. Go figure..

I paired this with a gasket matched and ported stock exhaust manifold. Porting the exit hole to 2 1/2" is all the rage on FABO, so why not. I had a hour to kill. I ported mine to 2 3/8" because that is the ID of a 2 1/2" exhaust pipe. For those that have not been following the YouTube channel. I built a 2 1/2 head pipe to 3" exhaust system. No back pressure here, baby.

Anyway, I went for a test drive. And boy did this combo make a difference. The transmission still has a slit overrun on the 1/2 up shift, but the linkage is still not adjusted correctly. So no panic yet.

I think I will drop the ignition system from the '65 Dart onto the Duster.

To bad the local tracks have closed. It would be interesting to see how fast this thing is now. The ole butt-o-meter says it is faster then the wife's old '73 Duster that she won her championship with.
