I got the last years head to the machine shop today.
11/32 stem valves, bronze wall guides, and another 50 mill on the surface.

We talked about the other head, he wanted me to bring it up and pressure check it.
He didn't like the copper head gasket deal, his thought was that the gasket was at fault.

I looked at the gasket after I removed the head and I didn't see any water path with my eye.
I looked the head over pretty well also, nothing I could see.

I might take it up later later and see if it's the problem, but at this point not sure how or if I would fix it.

Just an observation, those dowel pins look kinda tall in the deck pic, is it possible with all of the milling one or both ends aren't clamping tight enough at the end coolant pass-thru's?? My K6 block went porous in one cyl. when I had it done +.060", & Carl sleeved it, hope that's not it...but it is fixable if so...

I have had the issue of the dowl pins holding up the head before.
You can run a composite gasket with an o'ring block depending where the o'ring lands.

Well that would be an easy fix then. :D Something simple!

I checked the dowel pins during the many mock-ups.
I even drilled the head to allow a deeper location fit.
As I was telling Will, I had to use a hammer handle in the ports to pry the head off.
I have never had a head stuck like that before.
I should have left one stud in, because when it came off it popped, lucky I didn't brake the rotor button .
I don't see how it could pass water stuck like chuck.

One thing I have had happen, was at 41 one night and the car was turning over funny. Made a pass and everything seemed fine. Went to start it again and the motor was hydrauliced. Pulled the plugs and water ran out of a cylinder.

Took the intake off and had water run outof a port. Sent the head back to Mike and he found a hole. He said he had run into it before, a piece of casting sand had been in the metal and popped out leaning a hole. He said he'd seen it before and had some high zoot epoxy to fill it.

Slant heads get pretty thin when ported. Doesn't take much to have a leak.

Still waiting on the head.
I did find the milkshake issue on the old head.
Here is a picture of the #1 rocker shaft bolt threading into the head water jacket.
It's not supposed to do that.

I'm confused as to what I am seeing? My eyes and brain must be playing trickery on me. Glad you found the issue.

Looks like the bolt broke through the bottom of the rocker stand and into the water jacket, Rick.

Never would have thought to look for that in 100 years.

I have a pair of heads that I milled off the rocker stands. I used studs with blue lock tight on the threads just to prevent the studs from turning. Then Hardened flat washers and nuts to hold the new stands and shafts.
That was on a 440 engine that I modified to use 1.6 ratio chevy shaft mount roller rockers. I also have a slant six head that has the stands milled off, but I have never completed the project.

That picture is looking into the thermostat boss into the water jacket.
After the PO milled the rocker shaft pedestals off, he drilled and taped 6 of the threads into the WJ.
He told me to use Blue Loctite, but I was thinking he meant to keep them from vibrating loose.
Regular blue is not recommended to seal water.
I need a permanent fix.
I could stud it if they were drilled straight. :(

Headed to the machine shop this AM to see how much longer it will be on the 5th or 6 head on the Colt.
I am loosing count.

That is the easy one Rick!
Imagine the other six in the dark recesses of the head water jacket.

I talked to the machinist today, of course my head is not done, but he says mid next week.
He also showed me some junk chevy parts, the block he showed me had all head bolts into water.
Stock.
He said just put silicon on them.
How do you use silicon and bolt lube, like ARP goop, together?
