I know it might be hard to believe but I was just going to make a post saying I had figured out what was going on.
Where were you guys a few weeks/months ago
As it turns out I had the diagram the whole time but it was hidden within my 86/87 parts manual and there is over a thousand pages there.
Anyway you guys are absolutely correct and thanks for chiming in, I sure could use some more specifics on what to look for with the idler pulley, I figured Id have to find something and make it work, Id like to do this with Mopar parts but at this point Ill paint a Ford part Chrysler blue and forgive it for its past sins
I do have the original compressor that was removed with the single pulley, I will just for the heck of it look into seeing what its going to take to swap pulleys, evidently according to the parts books the compressors were the same between the 8s and 6s, it was only the clutch/pulley assy on the 6 that was single groove. Anyway looks like I do indeed have the right compressor and Id like to swap the clutch/pulley for a much cleaner/finished look.
Anyone know if a new clutch is avail for these things, single pulley I mean? I do not know if my original is any good
Is it just a matter of getting power to it and hearing if it clicks as far as testing?
Napa tells me the only clutch they can sell me is the double groove. They did give me their old part number for the 86 single groove and maybe I can do something with it.
I have the original air pump but it is toast, un-usable. I wouldnt want it hanging there anyway.
