One part I thought would be easy to find for my '64 is proving to be another pain!

Does anyone have a source for the old style PCV valve that is attached to the cap with a nut? NAPA showed a part number, but when they ordered it, it was the push-in style for the later model. None of the other local parts stores even had a number for anything that early.

Don't mess with aftermarket PCV valves; most of them are improperly calibrated. Use a Mopar PCV valve only. Ask for one for an '88 Diplomat; you'll also need its rubber grommet. Remove the old metal PCV valve, its nut, and the 2-legged spring thing on the underside of the PCV chimney cap. Holding the grommet rightside-up inside the chimney cap, press the PCV valve down into the chimney cap and into the grommet, so that the chimney cap is held between the grommet and the PCV valve. Install the chimney cap/valve/grommet assembly on the valve cover; push it all the way down and everything will stay in place, fit and work fine.

The plastic valves -- the ones from Chrysler, anyway -- are much more accurately made than the old metal ones; idle quality tends to be easier to maintain.

Dan, thanks for the info. I had been thinking about adapting a later PCV valve, but wasn't sure if was feasible and you saved me a lot of experimenting. I do have a later style valve cover and thought about changing it also, but I like the old version better.
