Looking for some input re: 245 and 265 assemblies.

Specifically, looking at working up my 245, perhaps with a 265 head and milled to increase compression - will probably put on a 4 barrel of around 350cfm... But that's a decision for later.

Bit unsure about some of the theory.

The 245 has slightly smaller intake and exhaust valves than the 265.

My understanding is the difference is more important depending on the speed of the engine - the 245 valves will get a higher velocity and better mix as a result, but at higher speeds having big valves is going to be more important.

Basically, I'm receiving two opposed opinions - 'stick with the 245 head and mill it' or 'put the 265 on and mill'.

Can someone give me some advice on this?

One benefit to the 265 (for me) is that I can mill to increase compression without dropping below the 245ci - I'm intending to cut a fair bit off to push the compression as high as possible on 118 octane :D sweetness for avgas at the pump.

Yep, Australian.

But i figured the theory might be universal - but tricky - might need someone who's done it.

Pretty much wondering which would be better - 245 all the way or a 265 head with it's larger valve.

Would the pumping loss from pushing through the tighter 245 valves make the increased velocity and mixing a phyrric victory?
