I have the engine and transmission all in and the thing running. And after looking at the engine bay, I wish I had painted it first. I don't want to pull it all out again to paint it, so what can be done at this point?

What kind of car is it? I mean is it an older car with more room or a newer one with all sorts of hell going on in the engine bay? I only ask because you might be able to just cover the engine and paint it?

If you want to do it right, pull the engine back out.

You will be happier with the results in the long run. Painting around an engine is pretty impossible.

Ask me how I know.........

just my .02

Good luck!
