ok, yell at me...I can pick up a Fbomb 9" rear for less than 200 bones...should I? It'll have to be shortened but it's way cheaper then finding a 8.75 and having it shortened..... the car is a 78 Aspen (F body) btw.

Any, gearing ideas? Mostly driver not hardly strip.....keeping the A904...

that's another problem...if you can follow my crazy thought... I picked up a 74 A904 (came with the engine), but it's not a lockup.....but then again I can't remember if the 78 A904 in the Aspen is a lockup either.
SO, do I pull the 78 to rebuild and put the 74 in for the time being or just build the 74 and not stress the 10% efficefficiencyerence.... as I mentioned before... not much strip time.... haven't decided on rear gearset yet... and will drive the damn thing all over creation.... (it is the family sedan after all )

Ford 9 " is fine you will have to have the donor car drive shaft as the U joints arent the same. Then have the drive shaft shop graft the 2 drive shafts to the correct length, Dont worry it not that expensive. There was talk about a conversion U joint but not sure whether it got worked out or not.
3.23 sure grip is a good gear for street use.

I can usually find a C-body or D100 8 3/4 for a good price and the labor to narrow an 8 3/4 is the same as for the Ford 9". Also, passenger car 9" rear ends have wimpy 28 spline axles. Not a big deal for a slant car, but that is what usually breaks first.

If you can find a 65-70 B Body 8 &3/4, it's really close to a bolt-in. You have to either pulled the springs in or out just a very little and the perches will drop in place. I parted out an 80 Cordoba (virtually identical to the a F Body) which had a 70 B Body 8 & 3/4 in it.

Crud, I missed that this was an F-body. Yeah, get a '68-'70 B-body rear end. The '65-'67 axles are narrower. Reed did this swap with a 5th Avenue recently to replace a broken 7 1/4. You might pay more for the rear end than a 9" that doesn't fit, but you'll save money as you won't have to spend money for narrowing and your existing brakes will fit.
