I have a 1964 1/2 Barracuda, at least I think I do. My pink slip says 1964 on it and motor vehicles says it always has. It was bought here in AZ and has never left.
I tried decoding the fender tag, but not sure if I did that right.
Can somebody help?

Actually, never mind about the year. I plugged my VIN in to http://www.hagerty.com/hccr/Search/ and it says my car is a 65.
Go figure.

Does it have an auto trans?
If it has a pushbutton shifter it is a 64,
If it has a columm shifter or a floor shifter it is a 65

As I said, according to the VIN it is a 65. Based on what you say that is correct.
I am fine with that. I love the car!

Can see how your confused. My car is a 1973 Scamp Brougham. Has Brougham badges in all the right places except....they did not make the brougham until 1974. VIN and rear bumper match up to a 73'.

What is odd is not only the pink slip but also the fender tag says it is a 64.
I am with you though exojjl.
Either way I love the car. That first body style is my favorite. It could be a 66 and I would still be ok.
Can not wait until it cools off and I can start working on it. Of course with my health and weekly outpatient treatments, I can only manage about a half a day a week. But it is getting done, slowly but surely. I am in no terrible hurry.

Plenty of vehicles are built in the calender year before their model year. If you make it to the DMV before the new calender year the vehicle can end up registered as being the previous year, but this seems to be less common today than in the past.

…which means somebody attached "Brougham" badges to the car sometime after it was made and first sold. :-)

That must be it. Although it does not appear to ever had the "Scamp" badge on the trunk; just a "brougham" badge on the trunk and one on both fenders. I do know for sure it's not a 74 sold in late 73 or a 74 registered in 73. It's almost completely 73' minus the strange differential with different wheel bolt patterns than the front.

They're great cars (all model years) and whatever work you can get done on it counts.
