It's a Ford 8".

I haven't verified the ratio, but I thought Norm told me they were 4.62s... :?

Rob,

How much do you care about your cars, your life, and your tow vehicle (not necessarily in that order)?

Given how much you have spent ($ and time) on these things, it seems like a simple 16' open trailer or a NEW tow dolly might be in order. $1800-2200 for a good 16' trailer with 4 wheel brakes (get em), or about $13-1500 for a new tow dolly with brakes (get em). You already have a capable tow vehicle.

I had no trouble towing with a new Master Tow tow dolly. It is designed to not have tongue wt - mine was < 30 lbs. No backing up, period, but easy to move around the yard by yourself and lighter to tow with a smaller tow vehicle.

Lou

Thanks for the feedback gentlemen.

I knew towing the car on the dolly backwards was not the right way to do it. I kept the speed very slow and paid close attention to any weaving. Still not the right way to do it, I know.

Honestly, my Master Tow dolly works fine for me, even without brakes. I just can't tow the Duster (or Challenger) that way because they both have spools. (That's the reason I towed the Duster backwards last weekend 45 miles each way. The dolly is tweaked pretty good from some towing misadventures with a full size truck on it, but still tows fine. It is the platform where the wheels rest that is bent. I can have the trailer builder that fixed the car trailer fix that for me as well.

I do want a full sized car trailer. I just don't have the funds at the moment. I've spent more than I intended over the last couple years getting everything back together and making some dumb purchases.

The tow hubs are just a temporary fix until I save back up enough for a real trailer. Besides, they're kinda cool in a nostalgic kinda way, right?

Ohio Valley is 21 miles from the Garage and US 60 is 45. I can keep the speeds low getting to and from both tracks.

Just rent a good trailer till you can afford to buy one. It will cost less than the ToeHubz and dolly repair.

It cost $180 to rent a U-haul trailer for the Clay City race, plus the hassle of scheduling the pick-up and turn-in around work.

I can get the tow hubs made and the dolly plate fixed for close to that. Maybe even less if I play my cards right.

I do hear you about the safety factor and investment. Really I do.

This is a temporary, short tow, local solution only.

A 16' utility trailer will work too (doesn't have to be car trailer).

Then you have a trailer for hauling other things....

One downfall to using tow hubs (and this IS kind of important) is that if you seize a bearing in a hub you will beat up your rear end and trans in the car, and possibly body panels.

Make sure to use really good wheel bearing grease in them and keep them serviced.

As my loving wife tells me:"Your head is very hard".

Trade one of your cars for a trailer. Do it right. As someone who has flat towed (65 Coronet with a 64 Dart, among others)in my younger stupider days, Dollyed, and trailered. A trailer is the only way to fly. I wouldn't think of towing without brakes behind me.

I would definitely trade some cars for a good car trailer.

Let's see.. I've got:

Street Duster
Turismo 225
'83 D150 long bed w/318
'78 Dodge Colt

The problem is finding someone who actually wants this stuff or will give me enough for it to actually buy a trailer...
