The plumbing had separated in a location that was not visible to us. It's back together, now, and we have boost!

Becareful running it without a BOV Bill I had a small pinch point in my manifold vac/boost line and got into boost and when I came out of it and parked the car the carb hat hold down bolt was bent pretty good and the carb hat was sitting sideways
There's alot of force there so Becareful

That's good advice, Aaron, and I'll take it.

We re-routed the BRPV line and the boost gauge lines today, and were starting on the installation of the BOV, but couldn't find the gasket for it. Freddie willl make one tomorrow. It won't be driven again without a BOV. Not to worry...

The boost ref line to the bov needs to be in the intake just in case you didn't know. :wink:

Absolutely do not run it again with the BOV.

If you make any kind of run with boost and allow the throttle to close the boost level will spike to high levels.(exhaist gas is still flowing through the turbo creating boost) It can bend throttle blades, turbine blades, blow off hoses....etc. Closing the throttle blades without a BOV can cause the turbine to slam to a stop when the boost pressure builds up and damage the bearing.

Be very careful until you get the BOV installed and operational.

In extreme cases you can sometime hearing the bearing squealing when it stops abruptly.

Which is it?

Tom Wolfe says the BRPV needs to be in the hat; Tom Drake says it needs to be in the manifold.

I get confused very easily at my advanced age.

After having read some online explanations of blowoff valves etc.,
it looks to me like the blowoff valve needs manifold vacuum to work, whereas the BRPV does not; it relies on only boost to do its job.

ERGO, the blowoff valve needs to be plumbed into the intake manifold to be exposed to manifold vacuum so it can open wwhen the throttle closes and vacuum is produced.

The BRPV needs no such vacuum signal and will only "see" boost pressure in its quest to enrich the mixture.

Plumbing it into the carb hat will satisfy that requirement.

Is that unacceptable?

It looks to me like the only difference in signals would be the pressure differential created by the venturis as the intake charge traverses the path from the intercooler to the intake valve.

So, what happens there?

As I sees it, the boosted charge is "X" psi as it enters the carb hat.

As it clears the venturis, it loses SOME of its pressure due to the restriction of the ventiris.

ERGO, what you'll end up with in the intake manifold will be slightly less than what exists in the carb hat, both in terms of pressure and immediacy. The pressure drop experienced will take a few micro-seconds to occur, so the signal to the power valve will be delayed just a tick, compared with what that barb hat reference line "sees" at any given moment.

So, considering these parameters, it wuld seem that a BRPV might benefit from a signal that originated at the carb hat, rather than in the intake manifold.

What am I missing here???

Remember; this is a discussion of a BRPV line, not a blowoff valve line.

I am a newbie with NO background in any of this, so have a little patience with the old fool...

Any information will be appreciated.

I guess it looks like this, from here:

BRPV line originates in the carb hat.

The Blowoff Valve line and the boost gauge lines both originate in the intake manifold plenum, just under the throttle blades.

I hope that's right...

I willl take that good advice to heart, Tom!

It was never my intention to run it without a BOV; just kind of fell through the cracks.

But, it WILL have a properly-plumbed BOV in good working order before it's driven again!

Here's how I have mine
BOV hooks to the Intake below the throttle blades
Vac boost gauge number 6 runner on the intake
Meth/water injection below the throttle blades
BRPV carb hat
FUEL reg carb hat
AMS 500 boost controller stage two activation carb hat on a Hobbs switch set at 3psi boost
Waste gate signal bottom port off the turbo compressor housing top port co2 driven off the ams500
