Well, made it to knoxville. Got some time runs, at Cherokee Drag Strip (
https://www.cherokeeracepark.com/ ), as Knoxville track was flooded on Fri. Car would not launch. No bottom end torque. Part way down track, it would pick up really hard (like another carb, or secondarys kicking in). Had battery problem, and while charging battery from truck, the truck caught on fire from a fuel leak due to a split rubber fuel line. Luckily we were able to put it out, with some towels, and no other damage. A friendly local racer supplied a piece of fuel line, so we could get back to Merils place. Sat morning, took the carb apart, and cleaned it. Didn't see any thing wrong. Went and picked up a new battery. Sat night got two time shots at Knoxville, before they cancelled the race. Same problem, no bottom end. Sixty foots were over 2 seconds.
PS: Didn't even put the bottle in the car. Motor runs only.
Built a new carb, and had planned to TnT last night, but got rained out.
I had this same problem with the other motor, that burned a piston, but thought it could have been a combination of a new converter (maybe too tight), and a pretty big cam. That motor ran great on the bottle, but in hindsight, I shouldn't have used the nitrous, as it burned number 3 piston. That is why I am thinking carb problem (lean on the primaries)
The current motor, has a milder cam (similar to what I have run before) and the same converter I ran for years with the 170. It will only stall about 26-2700 rpm. about 400 rpm lower then previous. So I know I have a bottom end torque problem. Hopefully I can find the problem before Clay City.
