Just wondering if anyone is running 6 into 1 header and if they like it or not. Dual exhaust seems a bit excessive for our very mild albeit injected motor. Hemi Performance in Australia makes a beautiful looking piece called the Pacemaker. Shipping would make that unobtainable I think. Failing that, I thought I could use a standard split header and make it into a Tri-Y. I'm open to suggestions and friendly debate. Haha

They work for some people, but if you look at serious race cars (Vintage F1) all used 3-to-1. We also use 3-1 and then bring those two pipes together under the car for highly effective single exhaust. There have been length discussions here and available for your perusal.

Clifford used to make a Y pipe for their shorty headers. I ran one for years and it worked fine. Clifford discontinued it, but any good muffler shop should be able to make one.

They work, the cluster of 6 tubes is tight to the pitman-arm/center-link & the T-bar, and they're not made to fit an early-A at all....& don't unless You wish to perform major corrective surgery.

I used it on my f body duster for maybe 5+ years as well. No issues except the thing rotted out like most any tublar mild steel header would in the salt. I made a 3" single exhaust on that car but a 2.5" single from the collector back would be more realistic.

The build quality is not great...and engineering of the tubes i believe is mostly well done. It will not fit a clifford intake without massaging or modifying the #6 tube.

I think one design is about as good as the other for most of our applications. I doubt there was ever a lot of, if any, dyno development for slant six headers. I figure they were designed from existing data from V8 applications. Purely speculation.

Cameron Tilley did a bunch of dyno testing with different headers. He showed me a room when I visited in 2005 that had maybe 10 sets of Slant headers hanging on the wall. He did not test any direct 6X1s, that I recall. With 3X2 style, he said 32-34" primary pipe length was best and he ran a long secondary pipe to bring them into a single. That probably works best on the roadcourse where you need low/mid too. For drags, you will definitely benefit from pipes after the headers, even if no 2X1 secondary pipe. I have seen gains of a few tenths. Basically free HP (except for your time and testing). FYI...

Obviously 6X1 works well in some situations, since Greg and Mike J (and now Dennis) have used 6X1s to make great power in NA drag applications.

Greg, do you have an extension pipe on there, or is it just the open header?

Lou

I am going to have extensions built for my Cliffords this winter.

I have seen quite an improvement in low end over the "bed of snakes", but have given away some top end. On my junk the 6X1 had no torque below 4000. If you let go of the button below that you could get out and push harder than it left. With the Cliffords it has become very consistent in the 60 foot to 1/8th mile, and 1/4 mile if there's no headwind.

Those Aussie Speed headers look like they are built this way and have the longer collector pipes. Has anyone had experience with these? I had always thought that the 6 into 1 would be the best header in a drag application, but I have not seen any actual data on this.

Any actual Data is hard to come by for many facets of slant 6ing.

Other than dragstrip time slips and records.

I do know that the old Mopar Performance headers that were 6 into 1 didn't fit my Duster because the clutch linkage assembly hit. Even the Hookers had issues.
