Can anyone please tell me the diameter and spline count on a 61 Valiant manual Saginaw steering box? I know its smaller than the 62 up stuff. Thanks in advance.

Still thinkin' about that 62-up K-frame install, Mark? Bet I could help set you up with some parts...

Need to take you for a ride in my 62 now (OK in a month or 2 or 3). Handling is much improved and no more misfire!

Lou

Thanks everyone. Lou, i think im staying with my current setup. I've got lower control arm bushings on the way. Btw thanks for the heads up on Rare Parts, got both bushings for $120 shipped. Everything else in the front looks great except the steering box coupling.
What we need to do is meet in Wythville some Saturday morning and ride across the mountains into Marion then we can ride down to our new place in Chilhowie.

Mark,

is your epic wythville - marion route from 52 north, then 42,614,61 ,or 460 west to tazwell then 16 to marion?

Definitely need the correct steering box for that!

Mark, I'm game! Let's keep up by phone about this. More elbow grease on the 64 engine bay the last few days - almost done. 62 is ready to rock whenever...

Best, Lou

Ok, I may have found a solution for the shoes and tension spring for the coupling. I will report back whether it goes good or bad.

Lou, the bushings came today and they look good. Going to pull the column very soon. I've got a plan , just need to pull it together, lol. I'll be in touch for sure.

Didn't know I still had access here - thanks Daniel!

The 60-61 box has 32 splines just like the later 62-72 units. The pitman is a tapered fit as well but is just under 1" in diameter, where the later one is just over 1". I just measured them! Hope that helps.
