the drivers door lever has gotten a bit loose on my 64 Dart 4DR. The looseness is not from the Allan wrench screw in the center not being tight, it's from some component inside the door.

Whatever kind of spring is inside the door that returns the handle forward once you pull it towards you to open the door has become much less taut. Everything still works, but the handle is loose and the lever doesn't return forward with much strength at all. I nearly have to push it away from me, otherwise it wouldn't return all the way forward.

Can someone give me advice about what's going on? I haven't opened the door panel, and i'm not inclined to do it unless something breaks or stops working. But that loose door handle is bugging me.

Thanks

I'm not familiar with a '64 Dart but it sounds similar to my '76 model.
Mine had a severely worn hinge pin in the inside door handle. I just installed an unworn one from a different car. I had a broken return spring in the outside door handle once too. Also a little lubrication does wonders for those mechanisms to make them work smooth and effortlessly and to reduce wear.

most likely the spring tension on the spindle has broke, you'll either have to find a new piece or see if it's possible to replace the spring. Good Luck

The spring in the "door pull" assembly is broken, you will have to replace the complete assembly.
Once you get the door panel off you will see that the unit is held in by two bolts and it has a clip holding the activating rod to the assemby's lever.
The "trick to the job is to get the window out of the way so you can slip the unit out.

Be sure to get the correct one for the door you are working on, these come in right and left versions so they do not interchange side to side.
