Has anyone repaired these things which activate the defrost deflector in the heater box? Mine are bad...and I'm trying to figure out if there's a way to repair them or if I need to find new ones..

They're not intended to be rebuildable, but then, cars weren't intended to last 45 years! There's nothing terribly complex about them; they consist of a crimped metal can with a rubber diaphragm attached (usually riveted) to a pull/pushrod. Theoretically, to repair them all you'd have to do is carefully uncrimp the can halves from one another, find some suitable diaphragm material (Neoprene sheet comes to mind), cut a careful circle of material the correct size, rivet/grommet the pull-pushrod to it, coat the edges of the new diaphragm with sealant (Mopar RTV comes to mind), reassemble and recrimp. If I were to do this, I'd use a dremel tool to carefully cut some slots -- maybe six of them -- in the folded-over crimp so that each of the six sections could be uncrimped individually. This would tend to reduce the risk of flex-induced breakage of the crimp fold, and your RTV sealant upon reassembly would prevent any leaks. When you install the diaphragm and recrimp the pod, make sure you get the "clocking" right, so the push-pullrod's end points the correct direction relative to the pod's mounting studs, 'cause usually these rods are not set up to swivel.

If that's more than you want to try (what have you got to lose? They don't work now...) then it's down to hunting for working used or NOS ($) items.

Hey Dan, the 60-62vacuum piece is obsolete?, correct?, why not use the later style ? The 60-62 style has 5 slots they only used 4, Check the pic on the other article, just a thought, it all works on vacuum.And Evan have you bought a manual yet -ebay has the 60-61 very cheap -- I'm keeping mine just for the pictures.

VDart- by "vacuum piece" I assume you mean the pushbutton switch. I was talking about the actual push-pull actuator pods down on the heater box.

Yes, I do have a manual which is quite helpful. Although I just discovered my heater core is leaking, and I have some major oil leaks to deal with. So while I thought I was going to be working on the vacuum actuators to get the defrost working, right now it seems I have more important things to deal with. darnit.
