Those of you who have youre battery in the trunk. How did you run the wire from the alternator? And what size wire did you use? Thanks.......

It's been three years since I did it, but if I remember correctly I didn't have to touch any wires from the alternator. All I did was weld a nut into the rear frame to get a frame ground, and run the pos. wire up to the starter(very high quality 4 gauge, I haven't had any problems but some would rather use 2 gauge or two 4 gauge wires, personally I believe it's overkill but more doesn't really hurt). I used an Optima battery so that fumes aren't as big an issue(I still believe they fume some, but not much). The hardest parts for me were mounting the batter and drilling the hole for the wire in the firewall.

Did you run the wire inside the care or under?

Also helps battery life and efficiency to be away from the heat of the engine bay.

In the Toad I found just enough room behind the aluminum kick strips at the door bottoms. Don't know if the '66 is like that.

I ran my wires under the silver trim pieces in the car as well(73 Dart).

Benifits:
I can sit in my engine compartment while taking off my manifolds

looks better

as previousely stated, weight distribution

looks

If you don't go super fancy it's relatively cheap to do(you can use a normal battery, I didn't want to so I found a $50 blemish special on an Optima). Tip: to make splice in the battery cables at Ace Hardware(or home Depot or similar store) in the wiring section they'll usually have a 0-4 guage splice kit for around eight dollars(includes a copper screw crimp piece and a very large shrink cover that puts down a lot of insulation once shrunk). I trust that kit way more that a trust one of the cheesy crimp connectors.
