Post subject:  Breaking out

By running out he means break-out. That is if you run faster than your dial-in. If you dial in at 18.00 and run 17.99 you broke out and lost. That is, unless your opponent broke out also, and then whoever ran to fast by the least amount wins.

You pretty much have it covered!

The words are "break out" not runout. That means you ran an ET that was faster (smaller number in seconds) than your dial in.

Usually you do not go directly back to the lanes for the next round if you win, but go back to pits and wait for the call for winners to get in the lanes again.

Also, it is not only the reaction of your eye-brain-foot-gas that takes most of the time between the last yellow and the green, it is also the reaction of the car to actually start moving after you mash the gas. This can take 0.2-0.7 sec depending on the car and launch technique.

Pat, you will have a ball and the Slanted Family will teach you some tricks when we're at the track.

Post subject:  Trophies are in

I picked up both trophies for our races yesterday. If someone wins both days they will have 2 nice bookends!

Just got home from Mason Dixon, Test & Tune, and anyone that is worried about being slow. You will only be 2nd slowest vehicle there. Take my word for it. They ran 2 cars in the lane beside me, one after another and they still both beat me!  Since I was only going to work on some 30 year old reaction times I came away pleased. I made 3 runs with a best time on 20.4 seconds! at 63 MPH. I actually drove faster than that on the way to the track! But the reaction times #1- .448 (aint beatin anyone with that ) #2-.231 ( ain't beatin Ron Hamby with that) #3- .031, now I feel like I am in the ball game! :D On my 3rd run I deep staged, just till the light went off and had that reaction time. Now I just need to check with the track and see if they allow deep staging like that. I didn't get a red light so I guess it was OK.

One thing that is very difficult to do with a 4 speed with stock (quiet) exhaust, and no tach is to hear your own engine. I am not worried about it for shifting because I shift at 35 MPH, and 55 MPH. But on the line it was hard to hear anything beside an open headered car. I may need to grab a cheap tach before the 22nd.

I had a good time but it was stickin hot! See you all at Mason Dixon on the 22nd & 23rd.

Ok, I am going to try and run my 67 Dart slanter at Mason Dixon :)

I have not made enough progress on my other car to run it, so if I want to run anything at all it is going to be my slant!

However, I need to get this stupid vibration figured out and install a tach. And I need someone to tell me what my rev limit is with a stock cluch, flywheel and pressure plate, 'cause I like my feet where they now reside.

I am going to post in the Trans and Rearend section on the vibration problem b/c I think that is where it is coming from. Please help!

Rick, should I call you or sumpin'?

Thanks all,

Chris

I'm still a "maybe" for both days, but looking more possible.
The upside:I have been very busy with paying jobs, and it looks like the money will be there.
The downside: I have been busy with paying jobs, so the race car isn't ready, yet.

Post subject:  Great news

Not to worry Chris. We have plenty of "Rookies" who are coming to race. We will have a meeting and go over things with everyone each day.

Charlie, That is good news. We will have our fingers crossed that it all works out.
