I haven't yet admitted that it is a problem, so I guess I'm not ready for the 12 steps yet...

I snuck in about 30 minutes this morning while the boys were at the gym. I got the car up on jack stands and crawled around under it for a few minutes. I think I'm going to move back to Arizona where we don't have rust! :x

It's structurally sound and the floorboards are replaced, but rust really bugs me...

Right now I'm struggling with desperately wanting to go over to the garage to fiddle on car stuff versus fiddling on other responsibility stuff around the house. I got a couple window cranks replaced and took out a couple towel racks that were broken... Now can I go play!?

You do understand that on a Midwest car "rust free" means there is no charge for all the rust, right?

That's hilarious!

I'm slowly coming around to the realization that rust is just going to be a part of my life...

So, I kinda moped around a little yesterday, but I did get several things done around the house:

window cranks, towel racks, ceiling fan, basement wall prepped for paint, general cleaning and organizing...

So, I'll spend some quality time over at the garage a couple evenings this week I hope. :D

Cool! 8)

The Piggie is going to Kearney. :D

We got home about 5 pm yesterday after our church Easter brunch. I changed into my "grubbies" and told the wifey I was going to the garage for a "couple hours"... 5:30 - 11:30 = 6 whole hours of Slanted Fun! :D

I pulled all the wheels off, removed several pounds of grunge that was along for the ride... I probably put away the tools and cleaned up about 4 times to go home... Each time I saw a little something else that I could knock out quickly...

1. Front suspension and brakes all look okay for now.

2. Need to replace the rear hard brake line. Gary said that when Norm lost his driveshaft way back when it had cut the brake line.

3. Right axle seal on the Ford 8" is leaking. Need to fix that.

4. Took out the front lexan windshield. The stuff is so yellowed I don't think I'll be able to save it, but I'll get some polish and give it a try.

5. Weight removed:

A. Probably two pounds or more of dirt, grease, rust and thick undercoating. Plenty more that can come off later.

B. Hood hinges/springs.

C. Pieces of parking brake cable left behind when it was cut out.

D. Various unused brackets, bolts etc. More left to remove later.

E. Dash board.

I think I'll get a scale for the shop so I can see how much weight I'm actually getting rid of. Yes, I know it's yet another addiction I'm adding to my Slanted Sixness list of ailments...

So, now that I've checked most of the safety stuff and know what needs to be done there, I'll start in on putting this thing together and hopefully make a race or two this year.

I was hoping Andrew and Chase would go to the garage with me last night, but they both had homework to finish up. :(

**(Note to self: Cover the Dart BEFORE using compressed air to remove dust and dirt from the Duster) Yeah, it has a nice thick coating of dirt and dust all over it now. :x

All in all a good evening of progress. :D

Racing starts this weekend at RT66. Maybe next weekend we can meet up by Wayne and John?

Talkin' bout rust - been on a Neil Young kick lately. I think he might also be Canadian!

Crap, next couple of weekends are spoken for - one of which has 18 guys heading for southern IN for a caving adventure. They earned it - they read the books. Just hope it quits raining sometime soon.

All the best to you fellas! W.

I've been keeping my PMs cleared out, so I must have deleted the one with the parts prices. Could you shoot me another one to remind me please?

I don't think racing will EVER start around here. :x The Ohio River just keeps getting higher and higher and higher... The poor folks in West Point, KY (where Ohio Valley Dragstrip is located) are flooded out with more rain and higher river projected for the next couple days... :(

Wayne, did you say "Rust" or "Rush"? Who's Neil Young anyway...?

I hope your caving adventure goes well. Every time you post something about your kids adventures I'm reminded of the good ole GodsRods days with a dozen eager teenagers crawling all over my garage. It really makes me anxious to get things started again! :D

GodsRods is such a cool concept! That's great that you have those kids involved in such a neat project. Thanks for your influence!

Hey Barry,

Those kids were such a blessing and encouragement for me! We were really just getting things rolling when I had to go overseas.

I'm really looking forward to getting things rolling again here in Kentucky. :D

Thanks for the kind words.
