Post subject:  Replacing "Borrowed" parts...

Many, many months ago... I forget exactly when...

I had stolen a few parts off of the Challenger to get GodsRods Duster II ready to race...

The parts I remember right now are the transmission cooler and mini starter... I'll remember others once I get back to working on the Challenger and realize I need something...

I had replaced the transmission cooler awhile back... About the time of my last post in March...

Well, the other day I stold that same mini starter off GodsRods Duster II for Chase's "Demonster" affectionately named "Stella".

So, I made a trip to Pull-A-Part in Louisville and grabbed a couple mini starters for both the Challenger and GodsRods Duster II.

I need to find some time to test them before the 30 day warranty expires...

Could this be considered "progress"...? :?

If all goes well with GodsRods Duster II at Knoxville this weekend I think I'll turn my focus back over to the Challenger. :D

I've been tryin' to talk up this "Fast Four" race at Clay City this year... And I HAVE one of the contenders just sitting there in the garage with a brand new engine just waiting to go in...

Hey Bagel! If I get the Challenger ready for Clay City you can use the Duster that weekend to take on Possum! :D

GodsRods Duster II ran nice and consistent with a new best ET of 8.89 in the 1/8th and new best 60 ft of 1.85, so,....

I guess it's time to start in on the Challenger.

CJ helped me clean up the garage today in preparation for the "Challenger Thrash". :D

Post subject:  Just a wee bit of progress,... not much...

Mike and I tried to get the scatter shield mounted the other day, but the brackets just would not line up properly with the shield. :?

I'll have to do some searching... Maybe the brackets are for a 727 rather than the 904 or something... :?

So,... That got taken back out and is "on the shelf" for now...

I went to put in the studs for the Mike Jeffery crank scraper and found lots of crud in most of the oil pan bolt holes. :x

So,... I spent some quality time with a small screwdriver, WD-40 and a tap making sure all the holes were clean and had the threads worked out.

THEN I put the studs in.

Image

Not having ever used a crank scraper before, I assume I should use some gasket sealant between the block and scraper before doing the same between the scraper and pan gasket... :?:

The other little "issue" I ran into was the crank bolt that mounts the pulleys for the external oil and fuel pumps.

Image

The SFI balancer on the new engine is about 1/2" thicker than the stock balancer that was on the original Challenger engine.

Image

I ordered a 6" (versus 5 1/2") bolt and picked it up this morning.

I also ordered a couple valve cover and oil pan gaskets, but they won't be here until next week. :(

So, the new race engine won't be going into the Challenger this weekend as I had hoped. :(

I'll probably fiddle with it a little and mock things up to make sure I know how to mount all of the external engine schtuff.

More to follow... :D

Just so you know, Guzzi Mark is just a *little* worried about his A/G records. He is looking forward to more competition...

I hope this new engine holds up like that Mark.

Ron Parker has been running his engine for several years without a teardown. Gary built that engine as well.

Has Ryan been able to make some passes in that blue car...?

Ryan is probably the biggest threat. Unless there is something else coming together that I'm not aware of... :?

Everyone knows that I'm just a "Smoke Blowin' Poser"...

I did swing by the garage the other evening and put in that new crank bolt.

There is still a Daytona that will be finished as soon as things clear up here. I may know someone who can put together some horsepressure for it too.

I didn't include ya since the last time you posted you said sumthin' about it never seein' the light of day agin... :(

I hope you're able to get things there cleared up quickly and can get some quality "Daytona Time".

I thought you were going to put your old Piggie engine in the Daytona... :?

If you're gonna "bump it up a notch" I'll have ta add you to the "Fast Four" list for 2013.

I guess I'd better bolt a few more things together for the Challenger... I can't have you makin' passes in the 'Tuna before I do in the Challenger!

Not really! We towed to Carlisle in 103 degree heat and both broke down on the way to the track. Then he towed to 2 slant 6 races with 4 days of rain and I'm going to the races this Saturday but he can't make it.

Let's just say that he has some "options" for over the winter. There are some other really fast cars I am looking forward to seeing soon!

No mine is not one of them! But with a little bottlle and a lot of throttle...etc!
