Certainly a long haul, Terry... We would try to roll out the red carpet (race attendance). Hagerstown, MD would be the "closest".

My 66 Valiant has gone 12.4?, at the local track. But I am doubtfull about running any more slant six events.
PS: Just got a clean Fl. title for the car last week (after 17 years). Now I can make it streetable (headlights, wipers, mufflers, tires), and get some use out of it.

Yes and If we could schedule a more Northeastern race ( I don't think we ever had one) it could make the trip a few hours shorter!

10/18/21

Well, I got back from a whirlwind drag racing weekend for the slant six racing points series. We wrapped up the season this year at London Dragway, outside of London, KY. Its a nice track set almost inside the Daniel Boone National Forest.

I got Lots of passes, and Ran a best (for the Weekend) of 7.49 int the 1/8 and 11.92( I think ) in the 1/4 mile.

I will post all of the times when I get to look at my slips.

A few of the Mechanical and electrical gremlins that had the car somewhat confined to the local tnt or the Garage are now solved I can confidently say.

- Low / falling Oil Pressure when Revving / High RPM was solved by up-sizing the supply line from the Block to the oil pump from -10AN to -12 AN.
- Erratic Crank wheel / Trigger issues to megasquirt were solved my Making the Silver Sensor Air Gap 0.002" and also Putting a 220KΩ potentiometer in line between the trigger and megasquirt. (it has adjustable resistance ) so I just turned up until megasquirt got a nice clean square wave input.. really took me years to figure that one out.. But it seems good now. I think in electroncs speak they may refer to that as a pull up resistor? this one is just adjustable.

I runnered up in both slant 6 Races.
Saturday's Race Final round (which took place after Midnite I think) I had a horiible light (like 0.250 or some thing atrocious!) , and then also broke out. Rick Had less horrible light and broke out by less and got to the stripe first.

Sunday's race I Met Rick again in the 2nd Round and Was able to defeat him fair and square.
I went to the final with a local gentleman bracket racer with a nice stockish 66 valiant signet.
I cut an almost unfathomable 0.0003 light but it was -0.0003!

If I red lite again, that's how I would want to have it .

Car runs good. Driver needs improvement.

Pulling in to the soon to be swamp pits:

Ruster Goes to a car show:

The local club down the road from my house had a Wed. Nite car cruise. It was a fun way to get Ruster on the street and be safe about it... but without the hassle of loading / unloading the trailer.

I had some guest drivers in the car last night... they probably would cut better lights than me!

Time to store the tires, Drain the fuel, and Dream about how to make the thing lighter and faster.

Have a happy Fall and winter Folks!

I dig how you added lightness to the door handles. I don't think I've seen that before. 8)
Question: Where did you come across that pic in the back window? Google search hasn't shown me anything yet.

9-4-22:

I have not changed a thing since my last outing in 10/21/22 when I towed to London Dragway in KY last Fall.

I attempted to go to the Mason Dixon Race (one day only for me due to family matters) and it was rained out.

3 weeks ago I went to the local Test n tune and the Crank Tigger Gremlins came back for my Megasquirt.. it was losing sync sporadically and would cause erratic spark events or no spark events above 3K-6K RPM's.

I finally swapped out the old silver sensor that DIYAutotune sold me a while back.. to the Red Body sensor that comes with a Pullup resistor in the parts kit and is used in the install instructions..

2 Weeks ago Made some decent passes... then the car Shut off on me in the Stage Beam..

I was able to nurse it back on the trailer... some electrical Gremlins were now shutting down the Fuel and Power to the Ign / Megasquirt.

Got Back to the shop and cleaned all of the electrical connections. Got it to start and idle / run on the Trailer in the shop with no problems last week,...

Took it back to the Track, and it was shutting down again right off the trailer...
Seemed that the Alternator Was fried.. Stator Windings were shorted to the Stator Laminations.. Found an excellent Local Auto Electric Shop that Was able to match the Small Liteweight Race Alt for me. They had one in stock.

I was able to run it around here with all the electric stuff on and had good 12.8V - 14.1V. Alternator now gets hot, so I may have to upsize it to maybe a 60Ampere unit.

**Note to self... The converter that I installed last summer is super slow off the line. - Need to go back to the Midwest "green" converter as well as advance the Cam a few Degrees!**

Should be ready for Clay City Now!

Man, that's been a journey. Hope the gremlins are back in their dark caves until at least next year!

Looking forward to seeing you in Clay City, Greg!
