See the red cable. I made a heat shield/deflector for protection.

Thanks Romeo,

I may do the same. I think once the motor is in I can get a better Idea which way to go.

Post subject:  Dash done

I got the final sanding done on the dash, and assorted pieces. Ash tray , glove box door and some other trim pieces. Off the the paint shop for some real paint!

I left the car up on the stands because the transmission cooler should be here tomorrow, and I might as well go ahead and put it in and finish up the lines to it.

If I get that installed early enough I may go ahead and load the doors back full of their hardware and get them ready to put on the car. Trunk is ready to mount as well. It will look a lot more ready when the doors are on it.

Hey Rick,

I'd like to see the pics once you install the trans cooler under the floorboard. I like the idea and may change a couple of mine to that method. Thanks!

Post subject:  Cooler mount

Got the cooler mounted and the lines run to it. Will have about 1 1/2" of rubber hose.

Dual pass cooler with both fittings on the same end

Mounted directly under passenger seat. See frame connector in the background. It is just about level with that. Added aluminum spacer at the front to drop it down.

Image
New line routing and made an aluminum bracket and clamped them in snug.

Post subject:  Black paint

Today about 10:00 I dropped by the body shop to drop off my steering column. It needed to be painted black also and since he was doing the dash I figured he could just shoot it at the same time. Well, when I walked in guess what was already hanging up drying? Yep dash and all the small parts I dropped off Tuesday. Oh well, I said just hang on to it until your doing some more black and shoot it then. No rush!

So at 4:00PM I dropped back over to haul all the finished stuff home, and guess what I found? He had already primed and painted my steering column! Cool! :D

So here I finally get to see some real paint!

Image

So I will start reassembling the dash wiring and glove box door...etc. Then on to the doors and getting them hung!

Post subject:  Old Photos

I found 3 old photos of my Valiant. Those of you who raced at Mason Dixon the last 2 years may notice a familiar starting line. :D

Image

Looks like same bleachers in the background. Also a drive in movie theatre which is now a go cart track and mini golf site. Car ran 16.8 seconds. This was in 1979! Boy I'm getting old

New paint in late 79

Image
Old school Pro stock scoop and traction bars with new Cragars. Best run that I remember was a 15.4 @ 90 MPH. 3.91 single track rear

Image

ALso had this 64 Valiant at about the same time. 1981 or so. It had new aluminum slots and that ugly green Chrysler paint that I bought at a car show for $10. It was painted in a small garage and it is a wonder we didn't blow the place up with ventilation system we were using! :)

Post subject:  Hope so

I am going to do my best Greg. There is a lot to do but I hope to have it there. I need to get the dash wiring harness ready to go and put it back in the dash. Then Rob (Paint Guy) is going to come over and shoot the front and rear window frames with their paint so I can put the dash back in and then the windshield and rear glass in. Then on to hanging doors ...etc.
The cylinder head should be done this week too. So I can slide in my new cam and degree everything and set the motor in the car.

Keeping at it!

Post subject:  DAsh progress

I got a lot of small parts painted and ready to go this week, but my main focus has been to get the dash reassembled. I took all the wiring out and untaped it, and scrubbed it with super clean. Everything cleaned up really nice including all the connectors. I made a couple small repairs to the harness and then I taped it back up. While I had the cleaner in the wash tub I scrubbed the rear window gasket , door weatherstrips and some other rubber parts that needed cleaning.

Today I took a piece of aluminum and cut out a new dash plate. I inset my tach and I will add oil pressure, water temp and volts a little later. i extended the bottom down past the dash about 1 1/2" and angled it up so I can add my toggle switches for various things down the road.

Rob is coming over the weekend to paint the window frames. Then I can install the dash and windshield!

Dash is about ready to return to its home.

Dash plate I fabbed up today

Dash wiring all cleaned up and re-taped.

Image
Door weathersrips are in and did a test fit on th ewindshield rubber

Image
Mounted a set of original Barracuda Lap belts. They will do for now.

Also started on getting all the guts back in the passenger door. cleaned up the winder and got everything wokring real nice. Might be able to hang the doors on Saturday if I can get some boys to help me!
:D I also have the trunk ready to hang. So it will look like a real car pretty soon.

Cylinder head should be ready by the first of the week!! Woo Wee!!
