Well the transmission issue will keep me from racing it this week end. But I do have some updates. The front mandrel that I made for about $30 seems to work fine so far. The belt is running dead straight and the mandrel runs nice and doesn't wobble. I will have to keep a check on the bolt for a while until I feel comfortable. Engine runs at about 65-68 pounds oil pressure. Makes pressure almost immediately! Webers were rough set and I went one step lower than Ryan's race car as a starting point. I'm sure I'll need to adjust but this was a good first guess. Engine starts right up without choke and sets and idles at 800-1000 RPM like its nothing. I gave it a good smash in 1st gear when I took it out to check the transmission, and it felt really good. I have the timing sat by "feel" since I must have made the mark wrong on my Romac. It looks like I am running at about 40 degrees or so and that can't be right. So I'll need to check that out. |

Sounds great, Rick! You'll get the trans sorted soon I'm sure. Lou |

Thankfully the transmission has 3 forward gears again thanks to the addition of a .04 cent washer. See here http://slantsix.org/forum/viewtopic.php ... 43#p478743 Now I can get to a bunch of small things that I need to do and get ready for Motor Mile. Probably will have to come on Friday and do the T&T. I won't get to the track up here before then. I'm leaving the 3.91's in the car for now. I want to see the performance change when I go to my 4.30's or 4.56 later in the season. |

I'm going 1/8th mile racing the next couple months. Having a hard time keeping myself from putting my 5.38's in. ![]() |

Cool news. That cost more of your time and soul to figure out... then cost from your wallet. ![]() Best of luck Greg |

Terry had asked what my oil pressure climbed to and I said 68-70. But tonight after I ran the car for a while and got it warmed up good, I revved the engine to 5000 or so just for a few seconds and my pressure climbed to about 80# or so. Now I am wondering if I have might have to much pressure ?? It may be 90 or more if it keeps climbing at 6400 RPM. So, I can easily adjust it down if need be. I just need some advice. Still has over 50# at idle hot so I can move it down if that is best.Ran through my gears a few more times just to make sure all is well. Checked the fluid level and I didn't see any leaks, so that is good. Also I held the brakes and just flashed the convertor for a couple seconds and it easily went to 3500-3600 RPM. So I think once I have it on the ground my new converter is going to be real close to 4000 RPM which is what Edge built it for. |

Sounds great, Rick. I would adjust the pressure down or you might start pushing oil out the rear main. I found my rear main leak went away when I replaced that silly Mopar high pressure spring (80 psi cold at 3000 RPM) with a stocker with a washer or two behind it. Maybe start with 40 or 42 psi at idle and do measurements again? Lou |

I have never run a external pump, so I might be totally wrong, but. Looking at my pump (on the shelf Peterson), I'm thinking the adjustment screw works just like changing the spring in a stock pump. It limits the MAX oil pressure. If you want to change the oil pressure at idle, you need to change the rpm of the pump (change the sprocket ratio). |

Went to the garage and set my timing again. Checked for leaks and all looked Ok. While it was up on stands and easy to access from the bottom, I backed off the adjustment screw on the Peterson pump 1 1/4 turns and it brought my idle pressure to @ 48 and the 5500 pressure to about 75. I may back it off another 1/4 turn and see where that is at when I get to WOT of 6200 RPM. I got the car down off the stands and took it for a little blast down the "Milky Way". Seat of the pants is not a great way to tell anything but boy it felt strong. It pulled really hard from down low up through 5500 where I shut off. Still has 3.91's in it too. I'll run through all my fasteners and check for anything falling off the car, but I believe I can bring it to Motormile. I need to change the oil filter and get Ryan over to give me a hand on setting the carbs up again. Plus it needs a new set of plugs in it. Transmission seemed to work just fine too. All in all a pretty good day! |
