Ryan came over yesterday and helped me run the procedure for setting up the Webers and getting them synchronized. After we got all that done I took it out for another run down the Milky Way (Name of our road- Why didn't I name my car the Milky Way Missle!)
Boy it sure feels good! Going by feel tells me I am inching in on that 12.99 number I am searching for. It does have a small lean flutter on the low side of the RPM range / transition, which I ordered a new set of jets for. But it clears out fast and then it is smooth sailing! :D :D I am really excited for VA now. Can't wait. I will be there for Friday night for test and tune.

I will have to see what a 12.99 converts to in the 1/8 mile. I know Dennis ran a 8.20 so it should be around that number.

13:09 was an 8:27. 12:95 and :93 were 8:22's.
I've still got a weird spot right about the 60 foot clock. I'm taking some more jet out and trying again.

Got my new jets installed, changed my oil filter and and topped things off. Ran the procedure on the Webers again. Ran out of gas so I added 5 gallons of 110 and 5 gallons of 93. So the only thing I plan to do is swap plugs as soon as I get to the track Friday. I have had multiple hours on these plugs just idling and playing around with the carbs. I plan to start off with a fresh set. VA, here we come!!! :D :D

With the car loaded for Motor Mile and the rain out for their test and tune, Ryan and I took my car to Mason Dixon to make some test runs. We got the car unloaded and ran through tech and went straight to the staging lanes. Since this was the actual 1st full 1/4 mile runs on the new set up I figured I would just turn 5500 RPM and check everything out. And that is what I did. Car sounded good and planted me in seat and pulled really strong. Came back and got my slip and it was a 13.25 @ 99MPH. I was happy and was pretty sure that with a full RPM of 6200, and cooler air coming, I would likely drop in to the 12's. I checked things over and found the oil pump belt slightly loose and made a small adjustment and went back for round two. But when I fired the car to make my run it immediately shut off. I popped he hood and there was the oil pump belt laying on the ground torn in two. At first glance I though maybe it was just an old belt that tore, but as I looked at the pump, it appears to be tight and that is probably what tore the belt. So 12's will have to wait for another day.

I found a small piece wire in the pump between the rotors and the end plate. A piece almost 1" long was in the pump loose. The other half of it was imbeded and was probably what was putting the extra pressure on the belt until it tore. Yes it tore everything up. I am not sure where it came from? It is too small diameter for a piece of mig wire. Too small for the wire I installed in the oil line to keep it from collapsing. Wrong shape and not stainless so it is not a piece of the braided lines. SO I have no idea.

I will put a call in to Peterson to see if they do rebuilds or if this one is junk.

Dang, sorry to hear that. Maybe a piece of braided line wire? Or a tiny (somehow) electrical wire strand that was in the oilpan and got picked up?

It is hard almost like spring steel but not quite. Fairly straight, and at 1 1/2 " long it would have been hard to miss in the pan. But it came from somewhere! :(

That is bad luck but I am glad you found the problem right away. It was a fluke thing that will never happen again. You are going to love the external pump I'm sure.

Only place I am now thinking it may have come from was the Moroso pick up screen itself that got welded to the pan. It is suppose to be there to stop large stuff from getting into the pick up. I guess it would be possible that a piece of the screen came loose? :?: :?:

If it's the same type of wire as the screen, it could have been left over when the screen was made.

Then it eventually got loose.

This is making me rethink my decision NOT to incorporate an oil pressure cut-off switch. Things could have been much worse. Anyway, I hope that is the last of the debris, and the pump can be rebuilt.

There is literally no reason not to run a cut off switch. If a person was to just be the ultimate tight wad it can still be done for less than $20. Use a $5 oil pressure switch and a single switch to bypass it on start up and about 8' of wire and your done. It has saved my bacon on 2 different occasions. Mine shuts off at 15#
