The car is a '63 Valiant, 170, all stock. It came with a three on the tree, but now sports four-speed goodness. I have an 8 3/4 with 3.23's on the garage floor, but will not likely get that in this week.

I'll look to see if I can find some belts, but I don't want to make holes in the new carpet or the virgin floor.

I can bring some duct tape and tape you to the seat so you can save your floor :D

You do not need a "racing" seat belt. But any car racing needs a set belt. Even a 40 year old stock belt is OK, unless the rules state you must have a racing belt for your class/et bracket.

Well no racing for me :( I was driving my truck ironing out a couple of minor issues and out of nowhere a rod started knocking. Sounds like it's coming from the rear of the block so I suspect it's Nr 5 or 6. I was really looking forward to this - maybe next year.
What's wrong with one of those other beauties in your signature?
None are operational - the GT is undergoing a very slow restoration and will most likely get a 340, the wagon has no motor (was going to get a 340 also but thinking about a warm over slant - triple Webers, headers, etc. The Barracuda is a 273 4 speed but no oil pressure at idle and the Valiant convert has no brakes. The 87 truck - definitely a rod knocking.

Your '63 should have holes for belts in front at least.

OK, Don, I believe you. Hope you can make anyway and hang out with the Slant 6 throng!

If I could find an easy way to get it there I would make you a screaming good deal on an 81 225, 65 Dartman.

Thanks for the offer. I do have a completely rebuilt 65 or 66 engine sitting on the stand that I bought a couple of years ago. Problem is that it was screwed together in 1990! PO told me besides a double roller timing chain and windage tray being added, it was basically a stock rebuild. Oh, and the crank was turned 20 and 40 under (don't know which way though). He thought it was a later crank but without actually pulling it apart, who knows. I've also got the slant and transmission I pulled out of the 66 Barracuda I parted out. I guess it runs since the PO was driving the car around the yard with a gas can in the passenger seat and a long hose thru the vent window  Either way, I'm not gonna have the time to do anything this close to the 23rd

Ok, I think we are pretty well set for next week. I spoke to the owner this morning and got some last minute details that I needed. He did say, "man you must have some good sponsors to have that kind of payout!" I told him that all the slanted family bought a pile of shirts and hats plus what they are giving us from the track, plus a couple individual donors made for a great payout.

Lap belts - They are fine, no shoulder belt is needed until you get into the faster cars that need a roll bar. But you do need a seat belt.

He will be giving us 2nd, 3rd place trophies as he did last year. I have 2 1st place trophies for the winners, setting on a dresser as we speak. (This may be the only time I see one of these in my house!)

We will be making our own random ladder. He wants a copy in the tower once we get it made up. I'll take care of that

Saturday race - Our time trials do start at 5:00 PM, We should get 2 time trials but it depends on how many cars show up. So this is a night race.

Parking - For those who weren't there last year, we all did try and pit together. If for some reason you can't pit with us, please look for us at the back of the pit area. Please come and see us so we know you are here and can get you put on the ladder to race. I will have a big banner that looks like our Tee shirts and Greg has one as well. We should be easy to find.

Arrival- The track sits right off of the main road (Rt #40) When you turn in to the track tell them you are racing, sign the release, and get your tech card. The track is directly in front of you when you turn in off the road. We will be pitting across the track. They will direct you where to go, but basically you will go just behind the starting line area, and drive right beside the staging lanes.Once you get past the staging lanes, you will turn left and continue back that lane until you pass the 2 big trees and we will be pitted on the left. Don't worry we will be looking for you too. We slant sixers can smell a slant sixer at a 1/2 mile away! :D

If you are coming East out of Hagerstown on Rt.40 (Dual Highway) you will pass a big Sheetz convenience store. It is a nice place to get fuel and there is room for trailers as well. Once you pass the Sheetz the track is only a short distance up over the next hill and it is on your right.

HE told me that if we all want to park together we should get there a couple hours early. 2:00PM on Saturday would probably be fine. I believe the gate opens at 12PM

Here is the list as I have it today, I changed a couple to hopeful? and took 1 of Lou's off since Brian will not be bringing his car. Please let us know for sure your are coming if you have not already. If there is a Y after your name that means that I have talked or e-mailed you in the last week or 2 and you indicated that you are still coming. If I am missing somebody please let me know. If you have contact with some who does not use the internet please let me know as well.

Post subject:  PAnts and shirts

One thing I forgot to mention was if you are racing you must where long pants and a shirt . No shorts. A tee-shirt is fine but no shirts without sleeves.

I'm not going to make it. Still have problems with the car. I have been busting my butt, working on the race car, to get it running decent, and working on customers cars, to get the money. Right now I am out of time, and money, both. I cannot duplicate the problem with the race car, except when making a pass at the track, and each day at the track costs me about $80-$100. So far about $300, plus the parts to make some upgrades. That is money that was going to help pay for the trip. I will probably see some of you at another race this year. I was looking forward to meeting new slanters, at M/D. I will definatly be at Silver Dollar Raceway in October. Have fun, and take lots of pictures.
