Frank,

Your trap speed being similar to Dennis' indicates that you have similar power/weight. The difference is that he has numerically higher gears, and more importantly, a high stall converter. You are probably giving up most of your time in the first 60 ft since your engine is well below it's power band. Hence the feeling that you are picking up accel with increasing RPM.

Believe it or not, a 2800 stall converter (10") does not kill your mileage much unless you hammer on it a lot. I would say the loss is maybe 5% over a stock converter. Makes the car a helluva lot more fun to drive though!

Lou

I'll keep that in mind for the future! For the being, with higher gas prices here in Canada, I'm going to concentrate on gaining 5% in gas mileage. I don't mind if I get a better 1/4 mile time in the process.

If you want 10% or more in gas mileage, put in a 4 or 5spd manual trans. I saw almost 15% when I put my T5 into my '64 Dart.

Is it possible that something is holding your car back from getting a higher trap speed and possibly a lower time?

Does anyone have any experience with 1/4 mile times and trap speeds?

Frank
Your ET is actually slow for that MPH. Cure your "bog" and your ET will improve, and probably your speed will pick up some too.

My MPH is a little low because of the loose converter.
