Rhonda is a beauty in her own way, but I'm afraid she isn't quite as nice as you might suspect at that distance. A bad need for paint (although very straight), and the usual '62 -'65 B floor rust. She's a factory A/C car, so she's got those cool chrome vents on top of the dash and elsewhere. Story with Rhonda is 200,000+ miles and a broken crank in the original 318 "polysphere" (and it still ran! ). .....was in the middle of a Isky solid cam 273 Commando ahem LA installation when relationship problems, a home purchase and moving interceded and broke my stride. The engine compartment has been spotlessly cleaned/detailed and completely rebuilt motor is installed and ready for accessory installation, but she's kind of languished on the back-burner for a while D/W

Dennis, what do yu think of the 400, I've heard that it was a pretty torquey engine. I like it because it is unique. Is the backyard Dodge the one that has the dual quad 440 in it?

If anyone just occacionally happens to find a 69-72 similar Newport just doing nothing in the garden, I would gladly care for it, and have it around in my garden

The 400 is just a 383 with a .090" bigger bore, low compression and a cast crank. They are not known for being "musclecar" type engines because they were kinda ushered in along with the "smog" era. The increased displacement was partly needed to make up for lower compression. There a great start for a low-deck big-block build because of their extra cubes. All of the big block engines produce plenty of torque. D/W

Nice to see somebody actually using a 273 in a car instead of a 318 or 360. Those motors don't get much attention...kinda like the 361 of small blocks

That's all the information I'm going to divulge on that one! I know what you mean, though, and agree with you. There is a slight difference when comparing the 273 small-block to the 361 big-block, though... The 273 was offered at one time with high compression and a four barrel. The 361 wuz alwez a low-perf "grandma" big-block, if memory serves correct. D/W

Hey Dennis, I was really hoping to see your photos to see what I might be getting into when we do our land deal. It's very frustrating only having access through a "government computer network" because everything is "filtered". I can't see anything! I know what you're gonna say! I can see clearly now the rain is gone... And I didn't even have to have one of our computer dudes do it for me! Hey Dennis, I like those B bodies! No wonder you want some more land. Those C bodies are huge! I have a few pictures of my place in Arizona somewhere. I'll see if I can find them. They were taken when we were building the 30 X 40 over hang to put everything under (almost) Mine are almost all A bodies though with a '56 Dodge 1/2 ton and a couple Brand X drag car project candidates.
