Im the guilty one using the 500 carter carb. But i have over $1200 invested in my cylinder head alone.

For a stock motor i think the Slant needs somewhere around 310cfm to operate correctly. Theres some math equation for it. Bore x Stroke x something else or other.

When putting you motor together just remember....baby steps

here my slant with the 390 Holley

and here she is with the 500

Why are we talking about putting a BBD on a Clifford intake?

Look at the original question. :?

You must've missed the man's other recent post, or you would understand:

You can put a two or four barrel "top" on a Clifford manifold. I'm pretty sure you can use these tops on the Offenhauser, too, if you open up the manifold under the carb (cut out the 4-hole "web" and just make it one big opening like the Clifford).

Ah-Ha

2bbl bbd + clifford 4bbl intake=a fish and a bicycle

Just doesnt make sense to me. :?

Since you have a 4bbl intake on already,I would go with a small (390cfm)carb.Which ever brand you like.Probably the holley or edlbrock.

Super six(2bbl) intake, deffinately the BBD.

...just because he has a Clifford intake doesn't mean his stock head/cam is going to be able to use all that CFM.

I'd like to hear some more opinions and experiences on what CharlieS brought up, a holley 2 barrel or a Weber on a basically stock motor...

Every time I've tried a Holley, I've wound up dissatisfied in one or more ways. I think maybe "Holley" is secret code for "Montague", and "Dan" is secret code for "Capulet". Us and them, we jest don't git along.

And I'll have to check the holy texts, but I think Webers might be against my religion.

If twin SU's are against my religion, I'll probably wind up in hèll, 'cause that's the next experiment for the Lancer. Was gonna be triples until I remembered "Oh yeah, the A/C compressor.".

I would like to hear of personal experiance with different carbs on the slant. My self, I have only run the stock 1 bbl, and the Holly 500 cfm 2bbl, on a modified stock manifold. For most street cars the 500 Holly 2 bbl, the drivability would be unacceptible. I have a 3000 rpm converter and 3.91 gear, and still had to do a lot of tweeking to get the low speed drivablility, decent.
Plan on doing some other carb/manifold combo's this year. Have Clifford and Offie manifols. A 390 holly ( a D/W reject  ), 600 edel/webber, 600 avs, 450 holley, even got a Q-jet and a thermoquad. With a couple of different cars/engines, running, I sould be able to try some different combos, and still have a reliable car to race.

This is a topic I could go on and on about.

I've tried: Carter BBS, BBD, large BBD (383 Mope carb?), Edel 500 and 600, Holley 1920, 1945, 360 motor 2bbl, 500 2bbl, 600 4bbl.

My 500 2bbl has been very reliable and works well even on a fairly mild motor in my experience with some modest tweaking. Best to have the 50 cc accel pump (stock on all?). Ign timing can be a big factor in tuning as well.

Favorite carb for medium buildup is the 500 edel. Very little tuning needed, unless on a mild motor.

BBD works great on a mild/stock motor. Don't expect too much top end, but a well adjusted, stock internal BBD will give great throttle response and mileage, and is a jump up from a 1bbl.

DO NOT put a 600 cfm 4bbl on a Slant unless you have a stout buildup, or want to spend some serious hours tuning.

Holley 600 4bbl gave terrible mileage and took most tuning to run decently. Edel 600 was far better from tuning, power and mileage points of view.

I say again, ignition timing curve is a huge factor in driveability, power, and mileage, especially with an aftermarket carb or other engine mods.

I have used a weber 38-38 and adapter on a supersix manifold.
It is rated at 320-330 cfm, so it is just a bit more than the carter bbd.
And it worked great on the stock 225.

I have a Edelbrock 500. I have mildly ported the head myself, new stock size valve job and shaved .060. I also have Clifford headers with 2" dual exhaust and a Comp 252s cam. Do you think this is a medium build up or mild? Is it too much carb?

That's on the mild side, but I have run the 500 on a similar setup and it worked pretty well. The vacuum operated air doors on the secondaries tailor the CFM at WOT. Only problem is off idle stumble, which can be trouble with any carb. Shortening mech advance (more initial, 28 total mech) helps this.
