Hey bohmer what happened to the original motor? We I last saw the car it was still the original right down to vin tag. And the 8.75 is also original. Besides yours my mother had another 72 slant e body. It was a red barracuda with 3m trans with 8.75 and 741 case. The baarracuda sadly went to the crusher 3 years ago (structural cancer) but I kept quite a bit of it. |

I am not sure what happened to the original motor, maybe I need to look a little closer but the engine that was in the car when I bought was a Chrysler blue repaint over slant six red (so I assumed it was a pre 68 motor, I haven't looked lately but I thought it only had 3 freeze plugs as well?). But that motor is out because it was getting quite tired so I can look at it a little closer when I get it back out of storage after moving and see if maybe the numbers are matching (I had kept it just in case). I didn't realize the 8 3/4 was original that is more encouraging....maybe time to change plans again and get the other block out and do some more digging to see if maybe it is the original motor. There were other things that may have been changed as well, the fender tag isnt on the car and doesn't appear it has been for a while (but I do have it in the car). I am pretty sure it has a 70 flat hood on it as the front trim is unpainted (you might have even told you did this I can't remember sorry). Oh and of course the exhaust manifold that was on it when I bought it had a perfect Dutra Dual crack in it. Brian |

yep 70 flat hood original was ran into a pole before I got it. I even saw the original hood trim yesterday it's still as mangled as when it was removed. As far as the engine is concerned I don't think it was red before we had it out I think it was blue, but we had it hot tanked so that removed all the paint anyhow. I do know we put a later head (76) on it cuz the original had stuck valves. Still have the head and the valves are still stuck in it. Was the exhaust manifold one of the heavily reinforced casting ones from the later 70's cuz that's what was on it when we had it. |

Well my guess would be the motor was changed between your and my ownership because I know it had an earlier head on it, becase it had the spark plug tubes that with the paint job leads to believe someone put an earlier motor in it. It could have been the kid I bought it from his dad was pretty involved in restoring old Mopar funny cars so who knows. Brian |

Quote: I have a 70 Challenger convertible 225 6 with a 3 speed stick which I bought "new" for my wife.
The car has been sitting for a few years, I turn it over every six months, if I remember to do so. I would like to restore it (still have the original "space maker" spare) since the car has never been cut up or modified. I would rather keep the car as a 6 rather than stuff a crate motor and whole new underpinnings. What can I do to keep the car "rather stock" but a "little faster" (to gain some respect)? And how much (dollar wise ) am I looking at to accomplish this. Can anyone recommend someone in the Seattle area to do the work (my wife doesn't want a disassembled car in our garage). Heh... 1970 E-body droptops are going for BIG bux..there is one that WAS a /6 with another motor in it now and one with a numbers 318 on moparts for sale..both are listed for OVER $50K! Sell it and buy 5 or 6 mint A-bodys with the cash! |

Quote: Quote: Then you need to get out more, there were quite a few E-body Challengers and Barracuda's made with slant sixes...sadly most are now V-8 cars...
Well, here In Mexico if you got a Challenger or Cuda with a Slant in, they ask "Why?", not enought money to keep the V8?, If that, then sell me your big V8!!. That´s people here say. I by now, I had seen my first Slant Six Challenger and by Internet!!!Right now I´m looking to put a 360 in my Duster, but is a little hard to find that engine. |

you know, this is simply put the coolest Mopar board ever! When my lady went to our local mopar club meet the first time with her just got back on the road soft yellow, citron green interior, 66 Barracuda Slant 6, 3-on-the-tree, she spent most of the evening repeating over and over that NO she was not going to switch to a V8, No she was not going to paint it black, or red, or whatever. She's has never asked to go back. She has since passed the BCuda on to me, but she still loves reading this board. Steve |

Last time i was in mexico there where 80's RAM pickups running around all over...some of those have to have 360's in them.Right now I´m looking to put a 360 in my Duster, but is a little hard to find that engine. Its normaly cheaper to build a motor the way YOU want it rather then take a risk on some used running motor out of another car. |

Ok, let me explain it more, 7 from 10 360 engines got cracks in the whole engine, thos engines when sold, they are only 100 dollars worth, when here in Mexico common prize for those old engines are from 600 to 1,000 dollars!!. Rebuilding cost is from these ranges 400 to 1,200 dollars, they are no bussiness in buying those engines. You need to search in junkyards or collectors for a engine in good shape. |
