thanks for all the help guys, several things for me to work on to cure my idle problem. My Dad is off from work this week so he's heading out to work on it this morning. I like the way you plumbed the fuel line in your picture also, I went the opposite direction to more easily mate up with the existing fuel line rather than replumb from the fuel pump....I like yours better....next week maybe!

Looks like you have the "thru the firewall bellcrank" mechanical throttle, lucky you...much neater than what I'm looking at.

Mike

indeed I do have the rod setup instead of the cable, but I think it would not be too terrible to setup a linkage pull that assembly.

There are more pics of it there on my site if you want to browse through them.

I forget who suggested it, but it turns out one of the carbs is not working right. After searching for vacuum leaks and finding none, I swapped out the carb I felt was suspect with the original un-rebuilt carb I had on the old intake and viola! near perfect idle (as smooth as it ever idled anyway).

We just got a pair of new air cleaners in FedEx this morning so it looks like we're ready to go after some cleanup and tuning. When I get a chance to zip tie everything up neatly I'll take a pic of the finished job and post it here if I can figure out how.

Thanks for all the advise and suggestions guys, I'll have to come back here more often.

Mike
p.s. I tried a new internet site trying to find 2 5/8 air cleaners called Hall Speedshop (www.hallspeedshop.com), ordered wednesday morning, arrived friday...regular FedEx Ground...better price than Jegs or Summit also by nearly 20%...try em!
