Yep, that's exactly what used to happen to mine and the car was at most 7 or 8 years old at the time. The first couple of times that it happened I just went to the dealer and bought a new one. The last time I found some large steel washers and ground out the centers so that they would fit over the tube then I pushed everything into position and welded the washers to the tube and arms. Problem solved, it never broke again.
