1) Not many '68 Chargers left with slant-6s because not many were built.

1) Nobody said anything about wanting to confirm matching numbers in hopes of making more money when selling the car, so what's your point?

2) Fifteen years ago, it was ridiculous to think that a slant-6 Valiant convertible would be worth more than about $4,000, tops, for an absolutely pristine and perfect example. Have you seen what slant-6 A-body convertibles are going for these days?

I can not remeber ever seeing a 68 Charger slant. I have seen Challengers and B'Cuda's but not a Charger. Awesome car! I don't understand the rude comments by ------, but this is a slant six site.

If you are wondering about how many were built, Chrysler built 92,590 Chargers for the American market during the 1968 model year. Of that 92,590 -

Charger 6 - 906 (1.0%)
Charger V8 - 74,019 (80.0%)
Charger R/T V8 - 17,665 (19.0%)

The remaining 3,518 Chargers were built for Canada.

So there you are, folks. A slant-6 '68 Charger was a very scarce animal, even when new. Probably rarer with a slant-6 than with a Hemi.

(Me, I wanna see one of these "V9" engines! )

where did you get those figures? IIRC I found somewhere that only 405 slant six chargers where built in '68 and around 500 (506 was the number I think) in '69. MUCH more scarce than a hemi. I think that besides the fact of the hemi cars reaching their pinnacle of fame, if I ever have money to buy me a '68 charger (my long dreamed car) I'd buy anytime a /6 over a numbers matching 440 or hemi. Why? simply because a body with a slant six couldn't have seen the cornering, hard acceleration and many other stresses that a V8 car may have received over this 40 plus years. I mean, a numbers matching slant six car should be not underpriced and overlooked with such disrespect, simply for the reason that HAS to be very well preserved.

902 had the auto transmission
2 are confimed with 3 spds.


1969 462 /6 Chargers built
200 had the auto transmission
262 had the 3spd.
5 of these were SE models

1970 181 /6 Chargers built with the XH vin.

28 1970 Charger 500 /6 Chargers built



As for rarity the are VERY RARE! More rare then a 426 Hemi Charger. We usually have several Hemi's show up at our National Show every year and we have only had 1 /6 Charger show up.

As for what they are worth its hard to tell. A 2nd gen Charger is commanding big $ no matter what condition. Rolling shells bring 5grand most of the time. A running driving 2nd gen Charger needing lots of work still having most of its parts will start at 10grand.

I also have a 1968 Dodge Charger with the slant 6. It is all original and the only numbers I have found on the block are 2806830-4.

I have never had the engine out, but I have tried to look for a build date on the engine, with no luck.

I would love to see some pictures of your slant 6 charger.

The numbers I found were on the top edge of the block up around the where the coil is. The block kind of sticks out a half inch more and that's where they were stamped. The numbers you found were probably on the left side of the block I have them there too. 20 MPG can't beat it.
